International Women's Day celebrations on radio

Tuesday 08 March, 2016

Radio stations across Australia have been celebrating International Women’s Day today (March 8th) and this year’s theme is Pledge For Parity.

On Perth's hit92.9 Breakfast show, Heidi kicked Will and Woody out of the studios this morning and had prominent females jump on board to co-host with her such as Netballer Shae Brown, Faustina Agolley aka 'Fuzzy,' presenter Emma Freedman and many more. Listen to the audio below.

The Community radio sector has embraced #IWD this year with 3MBS focusing on female composers, as well as women on air across the day on PBS 106.7, 2BOB, 2SER, 3CR, RTRFM, Triple H 100.1 and the CBAA is putting the spotlight on women with special broadcasting on the Community Radio Network and playlists on Amrap.

Triple J have programmed female broadcasters all day with Linda Marigliano on Breakfast,  Zan Rowe on Mornings, Gemma Pike at Lunch, Veronica & Gen Fricker on Drive, Kaitlyn Sawrey on Hack, KLP on Good Nights, Bridget Hustwaite on Home and Hosed and a special episode of The Racket hosted by Karina Utomo of heavy-hitters High Tension.

Triple J’s current affairs program, Hack, asked how many women are getting paid for their music? What artists are getting the most love on festival lineups? Is there gender parity on peak music industry boards and independent record labels? Who are getting more music award nominations? And after countless hours manually counting, graph-making and fact-checking, they present a breakdown in these handy infographics.

triple j Unearthed and Double J are also celebrating International Women’s Day.
