Speculation about Jon Faine’s future was triggered yesterday when he told Shaun Miccallef on air that he was not leaving this year “but next year,” telling Miccallef “there’s a scoop for you.”

Whether that means Faine will not be heard during 2019, or whether he will finish up at the end of the 2019 year is unknown.

In 2013, during an incident about leaked salary information, Faine confirmed his salary at the time as $300,000 and revealed that he had signed a contract until 2016. It is believed that contract was renewed for two years and that Faine signed another contract in January 2018.

An ABC spokesperson contacted by radioinfo declined to comment on Fain’s remarks.

Faine also declined to comment further on his remarks to radioinfo, telling us if there was anything to say then would do so on air. Faine is known for his view that the ABC does not tell its own story well enough on its own airwaves, so his stance is consistent with his own views.
