KO FM tops Newcastle market in survey 3

Newcastle survey 3 has just been released. KO FM was the big winner, increasing audience by 1.8 share points, while 2HD lost most ground, down 1.3 share points. KO FM remains the top station in the market, followed by NX FM and ABC1233.

 

KO FM scored 19.8% overall, up 1.8, with strong gains in its core 40-64 demographics, where it is dominant. KO won breakfast, mornings, afternoons and weekends. 

Second placed NX FM increased slightly by 0.4 share points to 17.7%, with gains in its 10-24 demographics. NX won the 10-39 demographics. The station is second in the breakfast timeslot and won the drive timeslot with Hamish and Andy. NX is now advertising for a local show to replace Hamish and Andy next year (see the radioinfo job ad page).

ABC1233 moved up to third place after a fall by rival talk station 2HD this survey. ABC1233 was stable on 12.7%, the same result it scored last survey. The station gained a few listeners in the 25-39 and 65+ demographics, but dropped some listeners in the 55-64 age group. 1233 is third placed in the breakfast timeslot.

Fourth placed 2HD dropped 1.3 share points this survey to 12.2%, losing some of its 40-54 and 65+ listeners. 2HD won nights, and dominates the 65+ demographic, but dropped in all shifts this survey.

Triple J was fifth, with 7.2%, up 0.7. The station picked up listeners in the 25-39 demographic and lost some in 18-24s. Triple J increased significantly in the morning and drive shifts.

New FM was sixth, with 6.4%, down 1.0 share points. New gained some listeners in the 40-54 demographic, but lost ground in all its core younger demographics. All shifts except weekends dropped.

ABC Classic FM was up 0.5 to 3.6%, Radio National gained 0.2 to 1.9% and NewsRadio lost 0.1 to 0.7%.

The survey period was Sun May 2-Sat May 15, Sun May23-Sat Jun 5, Sun Jun 20-Sat Jul 17, Sun Aug1-Sat Aug 21, Sun Sep 12-Sat Sep 25 and Sun Oct 10-Sat Oct 30, 2010.
