Licence complaint against World Audio

The Australian Communications Authority (ACA) has
received a complaint relating to World Audio group’s authority to broadcast from AM 1611 at St Marys.

The company is currently in a legal dispute over this licence and also faces trouble in Melbourne over its AM 1620 frequency there.

Having received legal advice on the Sydney issue, the directors of the company
“are of the view that the Company is authorised to broadcast under the
agreement with the registered holder of the relevant licence.”

In Melbourne, where the company believes it has the right to operate on AM 1620, there is another dispute in progress.

Roger Thomas from GBRadio believes his company has the right to operate on the 1620 frequency, saying that WorldAudio has “repudiated” an agreement with GBRadio for control of the spot on the dial. He believes that Radio 2 is “broadcasting illegally and is using an unauthorised transmitter.”

According to Melbourne’s Age newspaper, Thomas’s lawyers have written to Communications Minister Richard Alston, the Australian Securities and Investments Commission and the Australian Communications Authority, seeking an investigation into the allegedly illegal broadcasts and omissions in WorldAudio’s prospectuses.
