Lindy Burns announces her “Last Leg” farewell tour

Lindy Burns will return to the Evenings program for a final week of broadcasting in early December, to say goodbye to her ABC Radio Melbourne and Victorian listeners.

The tour kicks off on Tuesday December 4 as she reconnects with Marysville, a community she embraced after the Black Saturday bushfires and listeners are invited to a live broadcast at the Duck Inn, where Lindy will be joined by Writs and Cures’ favourites Bill O’Shea, Nick Carr and Katie Miller together with some great live local music.

On Wednesday December 5, Lindy heads West where she will be broadcasting from the living room of long-time listener, talkback caller and texter, Luke from Colac.

The tour will conclude on Thursday 6 December with a final broadcast extravaganza live from the ABC Southbank foyer and the special guests include ABC colleagues and friends, program regulars as well as live entertainment from Kylie Auldist, Scared Weird Little Guys (Rusty and John) and The Stetsons.

Lindy says, “The carnival might be over, but I can’t resist having one last hurrah (well actually four last hurrahs!) with some of my favourite people.  Getting back to Marysville feels very special and I’ve been promising Luke from Colac that we’d take the show there for seven years.  I had to make that happen even if it was the last on-air thing I ever did – which it nearly is! I feel very lucky to be given the opportunity to bow out in this way and am just hoping I don’t cry too much.”

For more than 13 years, Lindy has been broadcasting into homes, businesses and cars across Victoria, first as host of the ABC Melbourne Drive program and most recently behind the Evenings microphone.

A guru of empathy and a tall lady who loves to talk, Lindy’s best quality is her authenticity, what you hear is what you get.

Equally comfortable speaking with politicians, celebrities and talkback callers, her love of music, sport and innate sense of fairness and humour, coupled with a rare ability to truly listen, has seen her become a much-loved member of the ABC Melbourne and Victoria family.

Lindy announced last month that she won’t be returning to the Evenings program in 2019 as she has decided to return to her hometown of Newcastle to spend more time with family and continue her role with the ABC training team.

However she’ll no doubt return on air from time to time for special broadcasts.
