Live Premier League and FA Cup matches for SBS Radio

SBS Radio to broadcast talkSPORT’s official live match commentary.

SBS has announced a partnership with talkSPORT, the world’s biggest sports radio station, to broadcast its official Barclays Premier League and FA Cup radio coverage across Australia, in both English and Mandarin, on SBS Radio.

Under this new agreement, talkSPORT Live Barclays Premier League and FA Cup commentary will be available each weekend on SBS radio stations SBS1, SBS 2 and SBS 6 as well as online at SBS.com.au/radio on an exclusive basis within Australia.

The deal will grant the stations access to talkSPORT’s expert commentary, insight and links with the biggest names in Premier League football as well as its production expertise and experience of broadcasting live sporting events.

The agreements begin this weekend (29-30 September), with English-language full match commentary of the biggest games including Norwich City v Liverpool and Manchester United v Tottenham.

Director Audio and Language Content at SBS Mandi Wicks says: “We are excited to be broadcasting live EPL games in both English and Mandarin on SBS Radio. Football is at the core of SBS and by delivering a multi-language broadcast, more audiences than ever before will have access to the world’s most popular football league.”

Scott Taunton, Chief Executive of talkSPORT says: “talkSPORT’s coverage of the world’s most popular football league is now available to listeners around the globe. But, as an Australian, I’m particularly pleased that this agreement means football fans at home will be able to listen to our commentary on SBS as well as online at talkSPORT.com. With their strong heritage of football coverage and nationwide availability across Australia, SBS is the perfect partner for talkSPORT.”

Since the beginning of the 2012/13 Barclays Premier League season, fans across Australia have been able to hear live commentary on every Barclays Premier League match in English, Spanish and Mandarin on the web via talkSPORT Live at talkSPORT.com, and now the coverage has been extended to SBS’s radio channels.

All SBS Radio programs are available on Digital Radio in Sydney, Melbourne, Perth, Adelaide and Brisbane, online at SBS.com.au/radio, plus via the SBS Your Language App for iPhone and Android Smartphones.

SBS Radio can be heard in Sydney on 1107 AM or 97.7 FM, and in Melbourne on 1124 AM or 93.1FM. For frequency information in other areas, visit sbs.com.au/radio.

Earlier this year, talkSPORT  agreed  a deal with the Premier League for the exclusive package of international audio broadcasting rights for the next four football seasons (2012/13 – 2015/16) and with the FA for the next six seasons. In the UK, talkSPORT broadcasts 64 Barclays Premier League games per season and is also an official broadcaster of the FA Cup and England games.

The latest deal with SBS is part of the station’s worldwide expansion, as reported earlier on radioinfo. A similar deal has also been struck in New Zealand, and more announcements are expected around the Asia Pacific region soon.
