Matty Johns: ‘…we must maintain the discipline of recognising Anzac Day’

Matty Johns from Triple M’s Grill Team has reflected on Anzac Day.


In an emotional tribute he says we celebrate the national day of rememberance “a lot better than the previous 25 years”.

And why ” … we must maintain the discipline of recognising Anzac Day in the manner of which it deserves to be recognised.

Meantime, on Monday the ABC will have comprehensive broadcast coverage of all the commemorations, from local marches in towns and cities across Australia to the battlefields of Gallipoli and Villers-Bretonneux.

From 4.28am on ABC (local time) and 4.28am AEST on ABC News 24, News Breakfast hosts Virginia Trioli and Michael Rowland and ABC reporters at dawn services across Australia will be reporting as the nation wakes up to the anniversary of the Gallipoli landings.

The early morning live radio and tv simulcast of the Anzac Day events includes the Anzac Dawn service in Sydney, followed by the National Dawn Service from the Australian War Memorial in Canberra.

ABC Radio will cover Anzac Day from all angles, with talk and music on RN and Classic FM, and live coverage of dawn services, both local, national and international on ABC Local Radio and NewsRadio. ABC broadcasters of Australian, New Zealand and Turkish heritage will present a series of special national broadcasts from the 2015 Anzac Centenary Services at Anzac Cove and Lone Pine, Gallipoli.

Drawn from three ABC Radio Networks, the cross-cultural broadcast team includes Local Radio’s Richard Stubbs, RN producer Serpil Senelmis of Turkish-Australian heritage and triple j Content Director and former NZ Army Reserve Officer Ollie Wards.

Classic FM will broadcast a series of concerts across the day, celebrating the music of WWI, including Gallipoli Songs at 7pm and the Gallipoli Concert Series continues at 1pm and 8pm.

Saturday Extra will cross to Fran Kelly on HMAS Anzac as it steams into Anzac Cove for the Dawn Service, and to our reporters in Anzac Cove itself.

ABC Anzac, a digital radio station also streamed online, will broadcast the local Australian and Gallipoli services.
