Michelle Guthrie fronts ‘ABC Public Meeting’

The ABC Managing Director has initiated what she calls a shareholder public meeting for the national broadcaster.

Guthrie, senior staff, including Michael Mason, and ABC Board members fronting a selected audience of Australian taxpayers, who will quiz the board about matters they find important.

The public meeting was streamed live on facebook and ABC channels, with plenty of ‘likes’ being flashed across the screen from the hundreds of viewers watching.

By the end of the facebook broadcast the feed was seen by 18,000 people. It will also be shown on ABC TV and on the various ABC platforms.

Guthrie told the audience that in 2017, ABC Listen became Australia’s biggest radio listening app. “We connect Australians and bring them together around moments that matter… to contribute to our sense of national identity,” she said.

Live comments from ABC listeners during the broadcast range from supportive statements to critical rebukes of the national broadcaster over topics including the sacking of Red Symons, regional radio quality, and pairing of hosts. Here is a selection of comments posted during the live feed.
