Mix 94.5’s Ian Blackley signs off in Perth

Mix 94.5’s afternoon announcer Ian Blackley broadcast his last show yesterday. After almost two decades on the Perth airwaves, Blackey become something of an institution in Perth.

“It will be a huge culture change for Mix,” says Southern Cross Austereo General Manager Linda Wayman. “He will be sorely missed.”

“After 18 years on air at Southern Cross Austereo stations 92.9 and MIX 94.5, it will truly be the end of an era with Blackers shutting down the microphone at 4pm today. There are thousands of listeners out there, many of whom have grown up listening to Ian Blackley, who are going to find it strange not hearing his voice on air. And in our own tight-knit team, we will miss his professionalism and his slightly cynical sense of humour.”

He has been itching to join his wife Sheree, preparing and working on a new franchise she has bought. Blackley is also keen to spend some time with his Dad, who hasn’t been well, in the eastern states.

After suffering a heart attack last year, Blackley says his “perspective was readjusted and really wants to focus on his family.”

After he signs off for the last time, his last service to Mix 94.5 will be to MC a Red Kite charity fundraiser.

His replacement will be Tim Lordan, who is coming over from Triple M in Adelaide.
