Neil Mitchell says he may only have a couple of years left onair

3AW’s Neil Mitchell has revealed he believes he only has “one or two years” left in him behind the microphone.

Speaking on Sam Newman’s You Cannot Be Serious Podcast, Mitchell says he thinks his replacement could be Eddie McGuire, saying, “Eddie has always made it clear he would love to do it, yeah, and good luck to him.”

Mitchell’s current contract ends mid year with discussions on an extension due to begin in coming weeks, and he says, “I reckon one or two years will see me out and we will see how we go.”

He has hosted 3AW Mornings since 1990 and is a multi ACRA winner, as well as winning a number of Melbourne Press Club Quill awards, and at 69 says he would like to continue broadcasting, but not forever, “I think I am more likely to keep going a bit longer…I don’t think I am ready to step down yet, but I want to get out before embarrassment or before I’m pushed out.”
