German company, the Fraunhofer Institute for Integrated Circuits IIS, has upgraded its DAB+ software library to enhance the reception sensitivity of radio receivers.

 
The company says this extends the range of coverage for broadcasters and increases the number of channels that can be received in vehicles.
 
According to the company, newer vehicles, and electric vehicles in particular, “feature complex open- and closed-loop electronic control systems that can interfere with digital radio reception, causing brief but repeated signal disruptions.”
 
Fraunhofer has developed a newly integrated technique to combat interference and significantly improve the quality of digital radio reception for cars.
 
The software uses efficient spur suppression technology to significantly improve the quality of digital radio reception.
 
Martin Speitel, Group Manager Infotainment at Fraunhofer IIS, says: “Thanks to improved baseband processing algorithms, the solution offers dynamic resistance to interference.”
 
“Using a method developed specially for the purpose, the upgraded version of our DAB+ software library automatically suppresses any sporadic narrowband interference.”
 
The Fraunhofer IIS DAB Receiver Kit is designed to fit on arbitrary fixed-point digital signal processors (DSP).
 
The company is open to customer requests for extensions and additional features which, they say, can be smoothly be integrated into the kit.
 
In addition, the software features DAB+ Emergency Warning Functionality that includes multilingual text information about emergency situations as well as wake-on-demand functionality.
