New studios spur new programing for SYN

Youth-run community broadcaster SYN has launched two new radio programming grids, now broadcasting from their new studios in Melbourne’s CBD.

SYN’s new radio studios on RMIT University’s City campus are now operating for pre-production, training and live broadcasting on SYN’s two radio stations – SYN 90.7 on FM and SYN Nation on DAB+.

To coincide with the opening of the new studios, SYN’s programming is set for a shake up with a suite of new programs added to the weekly grid, allowing ongoing access to the airwaves for young people to voice diverse views and stories.

Highlights from this season’s programming include:

  • A national drive slot on SYN Nation (each weekday from 4pm), showcasing young talent from Melbourne, Canberra, Gippsland and Perth;
  • A set of dance and electronic shows (Fridays from 8pm, SYN 90.7), featuring African dance beats, maximalist electronic, house, techno and exclusive sets from upcoming Melbourne DJs;
  • A collection of programming presented and produced by under-represented and diverse cultural groups, broadcasting on Sundays2pm on SYN 90.7;
  • No Scrubs (Wednesdays 8pm, SYN Nation): a show exclusively focussed on female representation in hip-hop, rap and R’n’B;
  • URLs IRL (Saturdays 10pm, SYN 90.7): the exploration of internet subcultures and how they permeate popular culture; and
  • Swipe Right (Sundays 7pm, SYN Nation): a collection of experiences with dating, sex and relationships in the app age.

SYN Nation Programming Manager Jess Pantou says she is proud and excited about the content about to hit the airwaves.

“It’s our biggest and best season of SYN yet! Thanks to the hard work and hours of planning done by of dedicated and creative young minds, live programming has doubled since January and we couldn’t be happier”.
