NXFM wins first place in Newcastle Survey 2

NXFM scored the biggest increase in Newcastle survey 2, released today, jumping into top position with a rise of 3.5 share points overall. ABC1233 also gained, moving into third place in the market. 2HD, New FM and KO FM all lost share this survey.

 

First placed NX FM scored 20.8%, leading in all under 40 demographics. The station was top in all shifts, except mornings.

 

Second placed KO FM, sister station to NX, scored 17.1%, down by 0.6 on last survey. KO lost younger listeners, but gained some listeners aged over 55. KOFM’s breakfast is second placed in that timeslot.

 

Third placed ABC1233 rose 1.4 share points to 12.4%, leading in the 65+ demographic and third in breakfast.

 

Fourth placed 2HD dropped 2.5 share points to 11.5%, with falls in its older demographics. John Laws won the morning timeslot for the Caralis station.

 

Fifth placed New FM, sister station to 2HD, dropped 1.1 share points to 7.6%, with losses in the 40-64 demographics.

 

Triple J rose 0.3 share points to 9.9%, Classic FM dropped 0.5 to 2.2%, Radio National gained 0.1 share points to score 1.6% and NewsRadio dipped 0.2 to 0.9%.

 

The survey was conducted in the period: Sun Mar 6-Sat Mar 19, Sun Mar 27-Sat Apr 9, Sun May 8-Sat Jun 4, Sun Jun 12-Sat Jul 2 and Sun Jul 10-Sat Jul 16, 2011

Increases in all programs for 1233 ABC Newcastle in latest radio survey

1233 ABC Newcastle has achieved increases across the board in the second Nielson radio survey for 2011, achieving third spot overall in the market and number one talk station in the Hunter.

The station’s overall share has increased from 11.0 to 12.4, with Aaron Kearney’s Breakfast program enjoying an increase of 1.2, from 14.0 to 15.2, hot on the heels of close competitor KOFM.

1233 ABC Newcastle Station Manager, Phil Ashley-Brown said that this result is further positive recognition for a committed and hard working team.

“Today’s figures come on top of a big year for 1233 with the Breakfast team winning the World’s Best Human Relations Story in New York for their Andrew’s Journey series and the station winning five out of six nominated categories at the Northern NSW Journalism Awards last week, including Aaron Kearney taking out Journalist of the Year.

“This result shows there is an increasing hunger for strong local news and information. We are all committed to bringing the community the stories that matter and go to great lengths to keep our finger on the pulse of our region across radio, online, video and in social media. More than ever, people are able to engage with 1233 in many ways, wherever they are in the world”, Phil said.

Breakfast with Aaron Kearney increased from 14.8% to 15.2%

Mornings with Jill Emberson increased from 7.8% to 8.9%

Afternoons with Carol Duncan increased from 7.7% to 9.5%

Drive with Paul Bevan increased from 9.7% to 10.7%

Australia’s radio legend John Laws has again won the latest *Newcastle Radio Survey with a dominant 20.3% share of audience

John Laws has returned from a 3 year break from behind his “Golden Microphone” after some 55 continuous years on-air to win this survey which is an outstanding achievement.
