Sunshine Coast station Hot 91.1 has banned Perth music on it’s station in the lead up to the netball grand final, where WA will play Queensland.
The decision means that listeners will not hear bands such as INXS, Baby Animals, Jebediah, Cassie Davies, Birds of Tokyo and Eskimo Joe in the days leading up to the big clash.
Hot 91.1 is an official sponsor of the Sunshine Coast Lightening, who will play Perth Fever at the Perth Arena this Sunday.
Station manager David Graham says the move is intended to show support for the station’s Lightning radio partner.
“We decided that this was a great course of action to show Hot91’s full support of the Lightning’s bid to go back to back in this Sunday’s grand final…
“We’ve been a key sponsor of the Lightning from before last season started, so we’re very excited they’re in with a chance to win the final again…
“Win, lose or draw, we’ll be pumping out the likes of INXS and Eskimo’s Joe to our listeners from Sunday night after the game.”
Sorry, but what planet is this Station Manager on? The number of missed plays in a short period is irrelevant, but the Trumpian attitude of divisiveness and implied hatred of the West that the Sunshine Coast listener may seize on has no place on radio, here or anywhere! If our media takes the same road as FOX in the USA instead of educating the audience about inclusiveness and the concept of sporting fairness and brotherhood it will be a slippery slope to the mess over there. #Dumbest.Idea.Ever
