Prof Peter Greste will deliver the keynote presentation at the CBAA Conference in Melbourne later this year and will focus on the AFP raids on Australian journalists, and what this means for community broadcasting.
 
Prof Greste, who has been studying the state of media freedom, says the raids shouldn’t have been a surprise to anybody paying attention to national security laws in recent years.
 
Drawing on his experience in Egypt where he was convicted for terrorism and “false news” offences, Prof. Greste is expected to discuss how the situation happened in one of the world’s most advanced democracies, what that means for community broadcasting, and what his organisation, the Alliance for Journalists Freedom, is proposing to do about it.
