Please Explain is now a daily podcast

The Sydney Morning Herald and The Age’s weekly news podcast, Please Explain, is going daily, rebranding to Please Explain Daily.

The expansion follows on from a trial during the early stages of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Hosted by National Editor Tory Maguire, with Herald senior journalist Jacqueline Maley and The Sunday Age Editor David King also on hosting duties, Please Explain Daily cuts through the noise and gives listeners insights into the stories that drive the nation.

Regular contributors include Europe correspondent Bevan Shields, North America correspondent Matthew Knot, chief political correspondent David Crowe, senior economics writer Jess Irvine and political and international editor Peter Hartcher.

Maguire said, “Please Explain Daily is an excellent example of how The Sydney Morning Herald and The Age are always looking for new ways to engage with our readers and subscribers.”

“My favourite part about hosting it is the constant reminder of the extraordinary work my colleagues at the Herald and The Age do. The response when we went from weekly to daily for the COVID-19 pandemic was so positive it made sense to roll in to a long-term daily format. Our readers really want to hear from the newsroom, so I’m pleased that it will now be a permanent explainer to the daily news cycle.”
