Radio makes a difference in Bunbury

Two weeks ago a talk topic about whether Bunbury needs a major attraction got the phones ringing on Radio West’s Wake Up With Cliff and Nay show. The station responded to the avalanche of calls by getting a community campaign going in the town.

Following the talkback on air, Cliff and Nay set up a Facebook page called Let’s Get A Water Park for Bunbury. That page now has nearly 3000 people on it, which is “pretty remarkable for the older audience that may not be so attuned to social media like their kids,” according to Cliff Reeve.

“Last week we were invited to the local council meeting to address the councilors on the issue and a motion to have a $60,000 feasibility study was unanimously passed. We feel pretty good about it and hope we can get it up for the region.”

The local Mayor was even heard to say after the meeting that perhaps the council should make changes to start examining the influence of social media sites.

Studies will be undertaken to examine the economic issues surrounding the proposal, but Cliff and Nay have told radioinfo that just talking about it is progress: “this is one more way radio CAN make a difference.”
