Radio-in-Residence at the Library

When stations do OBs, it’s usually at shopping centres or at seasonal outdoor events.

Determined to find new locations for the old OB, 774 ABC Melbourne is preparing to do an outside broadcast from inside the State Library of Victoria. From next Friday through Monday, the station is relocating its Southbank headquarters across the Yarra to the historic institution on Swanston Street.

A major logistical and technical endeavour, 774’s Radio-in-Residence will be a live audio affair with nine programs across four days.  It will give the public a behind the scenes glimpse into everything that makes a radio station tick.

774 ABC regulars Jon Faine, Clare Bowditch and Hilary Harper will broadcast their shows  from the library. Other highlights will include the first public outing of the all-new Friday Revue, live and slightly dangerous hosted by Richelle Hunt and Brian Nankervis, the popular Raf Epstein’s eponymous Changing Tracks segment, and Libbi Gorr’s bright and shiny Sunday morning program.

This Radio-in-Residence is just the start. 774 plans to set up shop throughout the year in diverse, vibrant and creative Melbourne locations.
