RadioDays Europe conference tackles financial crisis and new formats

The Radio Days Europe conference has begun this week. UK radio reality star Vanessa Feltz is on the agenda, so is Canadian CBC´s Steve Pratt and Jack FM´s Ken Benson. The two day conference in Copenhagen now has more than 60 speakers from nearly 20 countries.

The program also includes keynote speeches by Pirate Bay Co-founder Peter Sunde, BBC Director for Audio & Music Tim Davie, NRJ´s CEO Christoph Montague, and a session about the future for radio on mobile phones from key representatives from Nokia in Finland and Sony Ericsson in Sweden.

A session on the future for radio in cars will feature key representatives from BMW and Deutsche Telekom. Specialists will look at the future for a digital Europe and consider hybrid radio models.

The European commercial radio sector is suffering due to the financial crises and the conference will give lots of input on how to get through the crises and perhaps use it to a positive turn around for the business.
Speakers in this area include UK advertising veteran Tony Hertz on “Seven Secrets of radio advertising”, German scientist Martin Scarabis presenting a new radio study purchasing habits in Europe, and Mark Barber from RAB UK presenting new research on how radio advertising boosts brand browsing online. PPM as audience research case studies will also be on the agenda.

Content is still king but it is under pressure. Leading talk show hosts will share their experiences on how to develop talk on your radio station. Swedish anthropologist Katarina Graffman will present studies of how young connected people use their radios in their everyday lives in the ever-changing media environment.

RADIODAYS EUROPE takes place in DGI Byen, Copenhagen on 18th and 19th of March 2010.

And later in the year, in our region, the CommunicAsia and BroadcastAsia Conferences will take place from 15 to 18 June 2010. They will be held at the Singapore Expo centre. See www.broadcast-asia.com for details.
