Real political punch up this Friday

As reported previously on radioinfo, what was meant to be a fun throw-away line during a breakfast radio interview has turned into one of the major events of the Tasmanian election campaign.

Friday morning at 8am the celebrity boxing bout dubbed “The Bridgewater Bash” will take place at the Bridgewater PCYC on the outskirts of Hobart.

Former MKR star and now 7HO FM breakfast co-host. Mick “The Marinator” Newell and State Liberal Leader, and likely next Premier of Tasmania,  Will “The Political Punisher” Hodgeman will step into the ring – where there’ll be nowhere to hide.

Mick’s Training has included a solid diet of drive through food, some boxing against under 10’s at Adrian Lovell’s Boxing academy, and 2011 (AABL) Female under 17 champion Krystina Jacobs.

Will on the other hand, isn’t taking this event lightly at all; he has been training with Australian Olympic boxing champion Luke Jackson.

Will and Mick weighed in this morning and whilst there is 40kg difference in weight Will did throw down the gauntlet to Mick and said:  “There’ll be no mucking around here mate, I’m playing to win!  This is  great preparation ahead of the state Election on March 15.  I’m used to dodging punches and also landing some in the political arena and fairly confident of landing a few on Mick”

Below are some videos of Mick’s progress in training:
