Riverland breakfast duo’s marathon fundraiser

Regional radio breakfast duo, Scudda & Maddie, have successfully completed 38 hours broadcasting non-stop, all to raise money for Lifeline.

Broadcasting in South Australia’s Riverland region, Jonathan “Scudda” Skewes and Maddie Jarosz began their marathon stint at 5am on Thursday October 31st, remaining on-air without sleep until 7pm on Friday November 1st, the entire 38-hours streamed live to Facebook, using cameras both in the studio and roaming.

The 38 hours included a number of challenges for the duo, visits from members of the community and interviews with special guests, notably, the duo participated in ‘Trick or Treating’ with the listeners on the Thursday evening, involving over 80 children who had heard the call-out on air earlier that day.

They also took a Hilux for a test-drive, did multiple sports and fitness challenges, shouted the listeners ice cream and simultaneously broadcasted on another Magic 93.1 in Grand Junction, Colorado.

Reflecting on the broadcast, Maddie said “It was an amazing experience filled with so many highs and lows, and will be something I won’t forget for many years. I’m looking forward to doing the next one!”

Scudda agreed with Maddie’s sentiment, adding “We’re definitely keen to do it all again… Just give us a few months to recover!”

With a donation portal on their website and a dedicated text line, the duo successfully raised over $3000 for Lifeline during the fundraising campaign.
