RN Summer lineup released

From 17 December, John Doyle will present RN Summer Breakfast.

John’s radio career started with triple j in 1985 when he first appeared as sports commentator extraordinaire, Roy Slaven. Doyle became a Member of the Order of Australia on 16 June 2010 for service to the media as a presenter and entertainer. In 2008, the former 2BL host’s play “Pig Iron People” was produced by Sydney Theatre Company at the Sydney Opera House Drama Theatre.

Doyle has confirmed that he is buying an alarm clock in readiness for the breakfast time slot.

“Having rarely emerged from between the sheets before 8am, I am keen to experience the thrill and terror of breakfast radio on arguably the finest radio station in the world,” he said.

Other highlights of RN Summer include:

  • The Architects (Every Monday at 11am from 31 December to 21 January): Joining RN from Melbourne’s 3RRR, The Architects examines architecture, sustainability and urban design and is presented by Simon Knott, Stuart Harrison and Christine Phillips.
  • Movietime specials (Thursday 5.30pm): Julie Rigg is retiring after 20+ years as an RN film critic including almost a decade as Movietime host and we’ll celebrate Julie’s career with some very special interviews and memories.  On 24 January join Julie and Jason for the final Movietime including some key interview encores. They’ll also look to the future as Jason introduces RN’s new film and screen culture program for 2013, The Final Cut.
  • 50th Massey Lectures (Monday 4pm from 24 December): In 2011 the CBC Massey Lectures turned 50. Bestselling author, essayist, cultural observer, and New Yorker contributor Adam Gopnik took as his subject the idea of winter – the season, the space, the cycle. Gopnik considered the artists, poets, composers, writers, explorers, scientists, and thinkers, who helped shape a new and modern idea of winter. Listen again to this enchanting series of talks.
  • Sunday Science (Sunday 9am): Robyn Williams presents Ockham’s Razor and The Infinite Monkey Cage, a witty, irreverent look at the world according to science with physicist Brian Cox and comedian Robin Ince.
