Ryan Rathbone moves to EP role at 2Day breakfast

Wednesday 21 May, 2014

With 2Day's new breakfast show struggling for ratings success after Kyle and Jackie's move to KIIS, Ryan Rathbone has moved into a full time role as breakfast EP.

Rathbone was PD at Mix106.5 (now KIIS) before K&J joined the station, and was moved out of that role to make room for Derek Bargwanna when the ratings-winning team switched sides. He later moved to 2Day as Assistant Content Director.

2Day's breakfast show, Jules, Merrick and Sophie with Mel B, took a big hit when KIIS was launched with Kyle and Jackie.

In the first survey 2Day's breakfast timeslot dropped by 6.6 share points from 10.4% to 3.8%. Last survey, the breakfast team clawed back 0.3 share points to move up to 4.1%. As Craig Bruce and all the SCA leadership team acknowledged, it was always going to be a big job to counter the effect of the K&J move and successful KIIS rebranding.

Rathbone's move to full time EP is one step in the station's strategy to regain a more respectable share of the Sydney breakfast timeslot.

SAFM Content Director Jason Allen will move to Sydney to take over Rathbone's role as Assistant CD at 2Day.
