PNG’s NBC Western is to reinstate short wave services on Daru Island.
 
The station has been facing neglect for two years, deteriorating staff housing, to rundown studio facilities, to non-operation of FM services in the Province.
 
As there is no standby generator the station is dependent on the town power supply and recently NBC Western was off air as the town supply was cut for a number of days.
 
The installation of a short-wave service is seen as a quick fix so that the station can continue to keep the local population informed of local and national news and issues
