Socceroos sign to Football Nation commentary team

Archie Thompson and Josh Kennedy join the line-up.

Football Nation has signed two former Socceroos players, Melbourne Victory club ambassador and former star forward, Archie Thompson and former Melbourne City striker Josh Kennedy, as expert commentary.

Thompson and Kennedy will join former A-League players Rocky Visconte, Adam Kwasnik, Clint Bolton, Daniel McBreen, Jon McKain and Steven McGarry on the commentary team to preview, call and dissect key games each week.

The coverage includes a preview, play-by-play call and post-game review of A-League games. Thompson said “I’m thrilled to be joining the Football Nation team, taking the game right across Australia and being there for all the big games and finals this season, particularly those Melbourne Derbies which I loved playing in, and have such incredible memories of.”

Kennedy, who will make his debut calling the Melbourne Victory v Western Sydney Wanderers game on Cup Eve next Monday 6 November, said “The standard of football we have already seen in the A-League this season has risen from previous years, to be joining Football Nation and to help deliver these games into people’s homes, cars and offices is brilliant and I’m looking forward to seeing all 10 sides battle it out for a spot come finals time!”

Football Nation is currently broadcast in five capital cities and via the myfootballnation.com.au platform, which collectively broadcasts around 100 A-League matches, plus additional calls of Socceroos and Matildas home matches and  W-League games across the year. Broadcast partners include Fox Sports, Talking Lifestyle 1278AM, the Super Radio Network, which includes 2SM in Sydney and 21 regional stations across NSW and South East Queensland, FIVEaa, Sport FM ,4BC and Coast FM.

Crocmedia Director Chris Giannopoulos said he was excited about signing  the former Socceroos stars. “We are thrilled to have Archie Thompson and Josh Kennedy join the Football Nation commentary team, bringing their expert knowledge and experience to deliver the play-by-play action to our audience of fans.” Crocmedia is the master commercial radio rights holder of the A-League, secured in a landmark six-year deal with Football Federation Australia (FFA) earlier this month.
