As this year’s ICC Cricket World Cup in India heats up, fans with digital radios have the opportunity to listen to 28 games on the ABC Grandstand2 Digital Radio channel. The first broadcast of an Aussie match will be this Friday. The station is available in Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide and Perth.
ABC Grandstand manager Craig Norenbergs is pleased that the ABC now has the ability to broadcast more sporting events:
“Digital radio gives us the flexibility to bring our audience a more comprehensive offering of major sporting events. We already give our audiences more AFL, NRL, Super Rugby and A-League on ABC Grandstand Digital Radio, but this is the first time we have embraced an event like the Cricket World Cup so wholly.”
ABC Grandstand will partner with the BBC to bring live, full coverage of games from the pool rounds, ‘super eights’ and finals. Grandstand’s Glenn Mitchell will join the BBC commentary team for all games involving Australia and other selected games.
The broadcasts began last weekend and the first game to be broadcast featuring Australia against New Zealand from Nagpur (central India), will happen this Friday 25 February at 3pm (AEST).

Yes, That's nice but what about us the poor cricket lover in Regional Australia :-(
ABC radio should combine news radio & radio national as one service & give us a fulltime sports radio service like nearly every other country in the free world.
The cricket world cup is verry big deal & outside the ashes is the most important event on the cricket callender & the fact that there is NO radio coverage across Regional Australia is an outright sin.
As taxpayers we ALL pay the ABC our 10 cents a day & because I don't live in cap city I just miss out. Why should my tax help fund a service I cant recieve ?
Cricket is our one true national game I feel cheated & ripped off that i can't listen to the world cup on my radio at home.
