Staying home has never seemed so good.. burn your passport

ABC Radio’s latest podcast is more Travellers Fails than Travellers Tales.

As one of Australia’s most popular stand-up comedians, Nazeem Hussain (pictured) travels for work more than most of us.

The upside is he gets to do what he loves all over the world, making people laugh in many different cities.  But, in between home and the roar of the crowd, well, that part really sucks!

ABC Radio’s brand new “anti-travel” podcast is designed to convince you leaving home is never the right thing to do.

Travel ain’t everything it’s cracked up to be.

Far from the glamorous life, the realities of missing home soon sink in.  Then there’s the copious boredom, delays, queues, dodgy hotel beds, bad food and super expensive wi-fi logins.

Each week on BURN YOUR PASSPORT, Nazeem chats to one Australian and one overseas comic about life on the road with hilarious results.  They moan and giggle in equal measure about the places, gigs and experiences that made them want to literally tear up their travel documents.

Season 1 features Australian talent including Becky Lucas, Waleed Aly, Luke McGregor, John Safran, Greg Fleet and Heath Franklin as ‘Chopper’.

Nazeem also calls on his funniest friends from overseas, international comedy stars such as Jason Byrne, Andy Zaltzman, Alex Edelmen, Urzila Carlson, Jen Kirkman and David O’Doherty to share their travel tales from hell (and back).

BURN YOUR PASSPORT talks to guests about their travel dreams and nightmares as well as picking out some of the more eccentric reviews on sites like Yelp and Trip Advisor. Nazeem will also encourage listeners to submit their own travel tales via Twitter and Facebook.

The romance of travel is over…and staying home has never sounded so good.

BURN YOUR PASSPORT is funded through a new initiative called ABC Radio Comedy, a co-production from ABC Radio and ABC Television.  ABC Radio Comedy is investing in new Australian comedy talent by commissioning original podcast series.

Episode 1 of Season One (10 x 20 minute episodes) is available now on the ABC Radio app, subscribe on iTunes or via your favourite podcasting platform.
