Tim Lane for channel TEN

ABC 774 cricket and football caller Tim Lane has announced that he will retire from the ABC after 30 years to move to commercial TV.

He has joined TEN’s AFL commentary team.

In his new role with TEN, Tim Lane will call Saturday night games and the finals series exclusively for the Network.

With his move to TEN, Lane leaves both ABC Radio and Television “after a distinguished and esteemed career.”

Lane said: “I am delighted to have the chance to join Network Ten’s football team at this time when, for personal reasons, it was right for me to leave the ABC.

“Having enjoyed TEN’s AFL debut in 2002, I’m thrilled at the prospect of being a part of it for the next three years. I wish to express my gratitude to the Network’s management for giving me that opportunity, as I do to the ABC and its audience for the opportunities and privilege I have enjoyed over 30 years.”

Lane’s CV includes 21 AFL/VFL Grand Finals, 15 seasons of international cricket, six Commonwealth Games and five Olympic Games.

He joins Stephen Quartermain, Anthony Hudson, Peter Daicos, Michael Christian, Robert Walls and Stephen Silvagni on the commentary team.
