Tom Ballard accuser JooYung Roberts reveals identity after abuse claim

Ballard strongly denies allegations.

An Adelaide comedian says he’s been left traumatised after an alleged sexual assault by former triple j host and ABC TV presenter Tom Ballard in 2014.

Ballard’s accuser shared the allegation on Facebook, saying “Today is the 9th of June 2018, which marks four years since Tom Ballard, host of the ABC television show Tonightly, indecently assaulted me.”

JooYung Roberts told News Corp media he has struggled with suicidal thoughts and substance abuse issues in the wake of the alleged assault.

“It was a traumatising experience for many reasons, one of those being I’m a heterosexual.

“It’s a risk speaking out about sexual assault. It’s the scariest thing I’ve ever done.

“For the sake of my career I did not want to speak up about it.”

Following allegations of sexual assault surfacing over the weekend, Ballard has strongly denied all claims, releasing a statement via his website saying that the experience was completely consensual.

“Four years ago I had a consensual sexual experience with someone,” Ballard said. “I had absolutely no idea he believed it wasn’t consensual until six months ago. His version of that experience as described on social media is simply not what happened.”

“This false claim has been spread via social media, text messages and gossip. It has been deeply distressing for me, my friends and my family. It has affected my work and my mental health.”
