Top news reader to undergo heart surgery

ARN Group News Director Glenn Daniel will be off work for 3 months after he undergoes open heart surgery. Glenn, who has read Breakfast News on WSFM for the past 14 years, was diagnosed with two faulty heart valves and both will be replaced.

Glenn told radioinfo, “The whole thing has come as a surprise. I feel fine and all the tests show my heart and arteries are good but both valves aren’t doing their job properly.

“I had no symptoms but my GP picked up the problem during a routine check and a cardiologist confirmed he was right.

“There’s a message there about men going to the doctor!”, says Glenn.

WS-FM Breakfast duo Jonesy & Amanda broke the news on WSFM on Glenn’s final day on air. The three have worked together since 2005.

“Being away from radio for 3 months will be strange but after years of 2am starts I’ll enjoy the sleep ins! This is a serious operation but I’m in great hands and very positive,” says Glenn.

Glenn is in his 30th year in Sydney radio having begun his career as a cadet at 2WS and is a former News Director of 2SM, 2Day-FM and Triple M. He is a multi-ACRA Award winner for best FM newsreader.

Chris Rieger from ARN’s sister station 973 in Brisbane will read the Breakfast News on WSFM while Glenn is on leave.
