triple j’s Ausmusic month: J awards and Australian music specials

November is Ausmusic Month, the annual celebration of Australian music on triple j. At the centre of this are the J Awards, which highlight the outstanding musical talent of artists in our own backyard.

Winners will be announced at the J Awards and broadcast live on triple j from 4.30pm Thurs 19 Nov.

Another big focus of Ausmusic Month is spotlighting local talent through even more Australian content across the station. There’s all-Aussie Live at the Wireless sets from Courtney Barnett, Gang Of Youths, Seth Sentry, In Hearts Wake and The Rubens, 8pm every Monday in November. Plus Aussie’s covering Aussie’s with Like A Version’s from Tuka (ft. Thelma Plum), The Jungle Giants and Tame Impala, 7.30am every Friday. Peking Duk, One Day, Elizabeth Rose and Basenji take over Mix Up, 9pm every Saturday.

You can hear Aussie specials on the specialist music shows The Racket Tues 3 Nov, Short.Fast.Loud. Wed 11 Nov, The Hip Hop Show Thurs 19 Nov, Roots N All Mon 23 Nov and Friday Night Shuffle Fri 27 Nov. Plus you can get to know Adelaide with Dom Alessio, as local bands like Hilltop Hoods and Bad//Dreems take you on a musical tour of their home town for Home & Hosed, 9pm Weds 25 Nov.

Then really get to know Perth hometown heroes Tame Impala via the J Files, simulcast on Double J + triple j, 8pm Thurs 5 Nov, followed by all Australian J Files on Missy Higgins, Regurgitator and Warumpi Band, 8pm every Thursday in November.

There is also another triple j Unearthed ARIA Week showcase, featuring some of the very best artists on Unearthed. Head to Newtown Social Club on Weds 25 Nov for incredibly special performances by Vallis Alps, Airling and Gordi. FREE and 18+.

And on Fri 13 Nov wear your fave Aussie band t-shirt, take a photo and tag it with #AusmusicTshirtDay to be part of the nationwide celebration of Australian music.
