Triple J hangs out 40 years of washing for all to see

A washing line hung with 40 years worth of triple j promotional T Shirts is the centrepiece of a public display celebrating the national youth network in the foyer of ABC Ultimo.

The display of memorabilia is part of this year’s celebration of four decades for the station that began in Sydney as Double J and has now expanded across Australia.

An industry event this afternoon heard that the triple j brand has spawned a storehouse of Aussie music in Unearthed, a huge online and social media presence, tv shows, magazines, a second digital radio channel Double J and music publishing.

Triple J Manager Chris Scaddan told radioinfo that the network is important to youth in capital cities and regional areas.

The exploding head logo (pictured with Chris Scaddan above) is one of the many logos and promotional icons that have been generated by the network during its evolution. The originals are proudly on display in the exhibition, and reprints of the iconic logos are also for sale at the ABC Shop next to the exhibition or online.

The exhibition is usually open to the public during business hours each weekday, but tomorrow (28 Feb) it will be open on Saturday so those who cannot see it during the week can have a look.

Speaking at this afternoon’s event in the ABC Foyer, breakfast host Alex and morning presenter Zan thanked the artists and industry guests who have supported the station over the years, and commented that many broadcasters have been part of the huge legacy the national youth network has built for Australia.

“In this year’s Hottest 100, there were more Aussie artists listed than ever before. 59% of the musicians in this years chart were Aussie artists… a record,” said Zan

Meanwhile, upstairs on the sixth floor, someone had to keep the station running, so Veronica and Lewis, with producer Max Lavergne, contnued their drive show while the rest of the station was partying.
