Triple J launches new station Double J with Myf Warhurst

After six months of audience and industry consultation, triple j and the ABC are rebranding Dig Music to Double J from Wednesday 30 April. Kicking off the very first show will be former triple j host Myf Warhurst, who will present a daily music show on the new station, with more presenters and innovative programming to come.

With a focus on new music, Double J also celebrates the iconic music you grew up with and brings with it unprecedented access to the triple j interview and sound archives.

ABC Director of Radio, Kate Dundas said: “One of the best things any of us working in the media can do is to deliver something that audiences genuinely want. I am truly proud that the entry of Double J into the market comes following an extensive public engagement campaign. We recognise people want to stay connected to music and discover new artists as they go through life – that’s the simple aim of Double J. This new ABC service has been built on the views of people who love music, along with the expertise triple j brings to making great radio and amazing digital content for its audiences”.

Former triple j presenter, Spicks and Specks team captain and all-around music fan, Myf Warhurst, will present a daily music show from 11 – 3pm weekdays. Myf’s program will be music driven, focusing on new releases, talking to musicians and dipping into the vast triple j library of artist interviews and live music recordings.

Myf Warhurst said: “I’m thrilled to be joining the Double J team. It’s a really exciting time to come on board with such a unique project. It’s a brand new platform where music lovers, like me, can discover new music and enjoy some old faves as well. I can’t wait to be a part of that.”

Double J will kick off at midday Wednesday April 30, at a live broadcast where Myf Warhurst will reveal the full Double J programs, presenters and music content on air and online on a brand new Double J website.

triple j Manager Chris Scaddan said: “We have wanted to build a station like this for a number of years and now, with your help, we are really proud to deliver Double J. While it won’t be a throwback to the music of the original Double J, it will be a station that takes the best elements of triple j’s past – a name, a presenter and the incredible archives, thrown headlong into the future with the best new sounds around. It means even more airplay for Australian music and more of the values and ethos that make triple j so celebrated around the world.”
