triple j’s ‘Christmas Number 1’ charity success

In December last year, triple j teamed up with some of Australia’s best musical talent and the Red Cross to release a Christmas charity single, ‘Christmas Number 1’. For a brief moment the song sat at #1 on the Australian iTunes chart, but more importantly the song has officially raised $19,477.83 for the Red Cross.

triple j is sending a big thankyou listeners as well as those who participated in creating the hit. This includes song writer and triple j Drive presenter The Doctor, as well as the band and choir made up of Phil Jamieson from Grinspoon, Elizabeth Rose, Thomas Rawle from Papa vs Pretty, Bertie Blackman, Tuka and Jeswon from Thundamentals, Joyride, Abbe May, Andy Bull, Laurence Pike from PVT, Touch Sensitive, Bree Tranter, Asta, Calum, James and Bryce from Lunatics on Pogo Sticks, B1 & B2 from Bananas in Pyjamas, Dr Karl and triple j presenters Tom & Alex, Zan Rowe, Linda Marigliano, Nina Las Vegas, Dom Alessio and Tom Tilley.

Lindsay ‘The Doctor’ McDougall said: “From a little idea, a flurry of phone calls and one crazy studio day, we managed to not only get to the top of the charts, but also raise some REAL LIFE CASH MONEY for people who really need it. I was already stoked to make a song with such awesome musicians, and now we know we made a real difference. How good’s music?!”
