Triple J’s Hack program goes down river on the Murray

triple j will go down river when Hack travels along the Murray to bring listeners stories from the Murray Darling basin next week.

The basin covers more than a million square kilometres and is responsible for producing more than one third of Australia’s food supply? The Murray has become a political football in recent years as state and federal pollies argue over who’s entitled to water usage in the huge region. Hack team members will jump in and get their feet wet meeting young people who live, work and play along the river. Reporters Tom Tilley and Kaitlyn Sawrey have already been out listening to local stories in preparation for next week when Hack goes on the road with Kate O’Toole dropping into a different town on the river each day.

The OBs begin in Albury where the river divides two towns; Albury and Wodonga and two states; Victoria and NSW. Next stop will be Mildura where the team will examine dramatic population growth and whether the river system can continue to support the population.

On Wednesday Hack will speak to a young farmer who DJs to help pay the bills, and look at life along the river, broadcasting from a house boat in Renmark. They then head South where the Murray meets the ocean at the drought stricken area of Goolwa. The journey will end with HACK’s regular Friday segment, The Shake Up where the program invites listeners to have their say about the struggling Murray river system.

Hack goes down river 5.30pm Monday 17th to Friday 21st May next week
