triple j’s Unearthed Remix winner is announced

The winner of the triple j Unearthed Remix is Borderland State from Queensland’s Sunshine Coast.

This year the task was to remix DMA’S ‘The End’ and over the past month, hundreds of Australian artists have deconstructed the single in many different ways, impressing DMA’S with the breadth and calibre of remixes.

Faced with the difficult task of choosing a winner, DMA’S guitarist Johnny Took noted the strengths of each of the finalists, saying “It’s been great hearing all the different versions.”

But in the end it was Borderland State entry that impressed the most with his re-imagination of their track, turning it into a blissed-out dream with a striking, cinematic production and a haunting piano line.

Johnny Took, says “The new keys part that (Borderland Estate) added at the start worked really well with the verse melody and we were particularly impressed with the production work he’s done with the backing vocals. As the song built to the chorus it became quite ethereal and resonated really well with the original.”

Apart from having the remix played on triple j, Borderland Estate will get to attend a production master class with The PresetsKim Moyes who produced DMA’s sophomore album ‘For Now’, as well as getting tickets to one of DMA’s Australian shows.
