Triple M couch potato to become a marathon man for Foxtel show

Hugh Jackman and his best mate, Triple M’s Gus Worland are teaming up once again for an original television production, an inspirational new doco-reality series, titled Gus Worland: Marathon Man.

To be broadcast on Foxtel’s A&E Channel later this year, Gus Worland: Marathon Man is a six-part series that will follow the transformation of radio host Worland from an overweight, unhealthy couch potato to a lean, mean marathon man after he accepts a life-changing challenge from Jackman.

A co-host on Triple M Sydney’s Breakfast radio show, Worland claims to be the world’s biggest sports fan. What isn’t in doubt is that he is no sportsman himself. In fact, Worlandis carrying around 140kgs that is fast becoming a serious health hazard and jeopardising his future with his wife and three kids.

In contrast, his best friend since kindergarten, movie star Hugh Jackman, is a ‘superhero’ whose six-pack is capable of rendering most women speechless.

Worried about Gus’s health, Hugh sets him a weighty mission: to race the 42.195km TCS New York City Marathon on Sunday, November 2, and prove to everyday Australians that they can do it too. Gus will be running for charity on behalf of the New York Road Runners’ Team for Kids, which raises vital funds to support NYRR’s free youth running programs.

Gus Worland said: “I’m taking up all challenges that are being thrown at me, and I can tell you I am going to be happy, healthy and fit! I’m determined to stop taking the easy option and to stand up and be healthy for my family and me. I hope everyone who watches the show takes a positive step in their wellness – it’s time to stop being unhealthy!”

Viewers will follow Worland on his journey as he changes his eating habits and pounds the pavement in his bid to shed at least 40kgs in six months. Keeping him on the straight and narrow is fitness coach and nutritionist Brad Pamp, and Triple M workmates Matty Johns and Mark Geyer.

Will his hunger to succeed override his hankering for Maccas? Will his desire to win supersede his desire for snacks, lollies and smokes? And will Hugh Jackman get his old mate to become a new slim-line self?

Worland previously starred in FOX8’s An Aussie Goes… Barmy/Bolly/Calypso series, co-produced by Hugh Jackman, which saw him infiltrate the fan bases of some of the biggest cricket teams in the world. He also appeared in the reality series The Singing Office, and won an ASTRA Award for this and An Aussie Goes Bolly.

In 2010, Gus joined Foxtel’s broadcast of the Delhi Commonwealth Games as one of the on-the-ground reporters. He reprised this role, as well as being part of Foxtel’s swimming commentary team, for Foxtel’s Logie Award-winning broadcast of the LONDON 2012 Olympic Games.

Gus Worland: Marathon Man is being produced by Mint Pictures exclusively for Foxtel, and will air on A&E later this year.
