Triple M joins Movember Foundation supporting man dates

Monday 08 May, 2017

For a lot of Aussie men, life gets busy and they lose touch with their mates.

Today - Monday May 8, the Movember Foundation and Triple M are encouraging blokes to use the day - MAYEIGHT!! to catch up with a mate.

Movember is reaching out to men across Australia to spread the important message of catching up with a mate and Triple M has jumped on board to also urge men to open up and chat to their mates around the country.

One in four Australian men aged 30 to 65 admit they have few or no social connections and one-third are unsatisfied with the quality of their friendships. MAYEIGHT!! is the day for blokes to get together, to touch base with their friends and share what's going on in their lives.

Charlotte Webb, The Movember Foundation's Asia Pacific Director said, "A recent study we funded with beyondblue found that while 80% of men said they would be there to support their mates if they were going through a hard time, these same guys don't feel that they can turn to their mates when they are having a rough time themselves.

"MAYEIGHT!! is about encouraging guys to keep these connections because catching up with your mates is good for your mental health. It's a simple action that makes such a huge difference to men's future steering them away from social isolation and providing them with a support network for when things get tough."

Gus Worland, Triple M Sydney's Grill Team co-host and presenter of ABC TV series Man Up said, "It's so important to find time to have a proper chat with your mate! Just the two of you talking about real things like feelings and thoughts. Not all the time but there should be time for a deep and meaningful when it is needed."
