Gordon Rothery (The Reverend) a radio veteran of more than 40 years was farewelled at Rookwood Cemetary in Sydney yesterday, June 30. The chapel was overflowing and filled with family, friends and many radio buddies who he had worked with over the years.
He passed away on June 22 after suffering a heart attack.
Gordon made his mark in sales and creative and had worked at 4GY, 2LT, 2LF, 2WL, 2SM, 2GB, 2KY, and more recently contributed many voluntary hours over 10 years at community station 2MCR on programs such as My Kind of Music and My World of Music on Saturday and Sunday mornings. He was also a member of community station 2GLF in Liverpool.
If you knew Gordon and would like to pay tribute to him, leave a note in the box below.
Rest in peace Reverend, and thanks for the laughs and friendship
I only recently found out about Gordon's death via Radioinfo.
Having worked with Gordon at 2MCR between 1998 - 2005, he helped educate myself and other members about radio, warned me of the politics, and also stirred the pot a little, just to keep others on their toes. It's spooky for me as I had only spoken on the phone to him about 3 days beforehand, which he seemed fine.
Thanks for your help Gordon. Say hi to Lucy for me!
