She was delightful and always lit up the room…
Radio presenter Sammy Power has died aged 55.
Sammy studied at AFTRS and began her career on air with a brief stint in regional radio, before getting her break in Sydney hosting breakfast on Mix 106.5 (now KIIS).
She was teamed with Jason Bouman with good ratings success in the early 2000s.
She left Mix in a format reshuffle, then worked at Wave FM Wollongong.
Sammy was also on air at Triple M Brisbane and Hot 91 Sunshine Coast.
Five years ago we reported that she married herself and was feeling fit and healthy after returning home to Queensland and working in the family business.
She loved cats and recently lost one of her long time pets.
Posts on Sammy’s facebook page are full of tributes and stories of her warmth and kindness.
One post, from producer Laura Bouchet tells the story of how Sammy helped her in her career:I first met Sammy when I was a junior reporter at 4KQ.back in the late 80s.
I was a petrified young street teamer at Mix when I was tasked with recording audio of Sammy in her car as she drove to work.
As soon as we finished, she jumped out, walked straight up to her boss and said “she’s good, you should make her a producer.”
Shortly after, they did. Thanks for the ride Sammy Power, Rest In Peace you legend
She was delightful and always lit up the room.
But she always ensured she looked out for people.
I remember one particular time when I was having a bad shift.
Sammy went out of her way, to pull me aside and give direction and advice.
Her words of wisdom got me bacK on track and it helped me in my radio career.Rest In Peace Sammy. And thankyou

She left us on ratings day. RIP Sammy.
I am sitting here with tears pouring down my cheeks - so shocked and saddened to read this news.
I never met Sammy in person, but knew her firstly through our many exchanges of emails and later as friends on Facebook. She was one of the first people to send me loving messages of support when my parents died and was unfailingly cheerful and supportive. She will leave a huge hole in the lives of many, many people. I will miss you Sammy, may you rest in peace and leave happy memories with your extensive radio family and friends.

This is sad news for people everywhere. I kind of grew up listening to Sammy. She was a hit with my family at breakfast on KROQ(now triple m gold coast), and later at triple m brisbane. I also caught snippets of her with Doug Mulray and later on mix 1065. She was always lovely and hilarious and will be missed by many.
She also did breakfast with Doug Mulray on Triple M before she moved to Mix when Doug left for the last time.
RIP Sammy.....
I only knew you for a short time, but it was fun and Life was good. Clearly life was not easy for you, But know that everyone who knew you well, their life was a little more easier and brighter because of your warmth, your infectious laughter and joy you brought with you every where. You and your talents were unique. And our world is a lot sadder for you not being with us. R.I.P lovely Sammy.
