A change.org petition has been started to have 6PR breakfast co-host, and new Perth Mayor, Basil Zempalis, removed from office, just two weeks after being elected.

The petition already has 11,500 signatures, and was instigated by the Perth Scorpions Volleyball Club following comments Zempalis made about transgenders on his radio program, saying said genitals determined a person’s gender, “If you’ve got a penis, mate, you are a bloke. If you’ve got a vagina you are a woman. Game over.”

He later apologised for his “inappropriate” comments saying “I’ve learned that I’ve caused those people significant duress, and again that was not my intention, and what’s more disappointing is I understand that that is indeed how people live their lives and I am aware of that and I was aware of that yesterday but it was radio banter gone wrong.If I had the opportunity to take it back I would, but I can’t.”

The petitioners have asked WA Premier, Mark McGowan to remove the new Mayor from office saying, “This is not how a Lord Mayor should be acting, this is not how any person in power or not in power even, should be portraying any other human being regardless of sex, gender, sexuality, race, this is 2020 not the 1950s! Who is next on Mr Zempalis list, women, children, the disabled, when and where will be stop???”
