Triple M Sydney breakfast host, Lawrence Mooney has been a notable absence from Moonman in the Morning in recent days.
Co-hosts Chris Page and Jess Eva have been on-air, but there has been no mention of Mooney.
The Daily Telegraph is speculating (subscription required) that perhaps Mooney will not return to the program, despite a year being left on his contract.
When radioinfo contacted SCA for a comment a spokesperson said all they could say was “…that he is not on air at the moment.”
Only last week Triple M announced that Mark Geyer would join the program in 2022 to give the show more of a sporting bias.
The Daily Mail is reporting that Mooney will be axed after falling out with his co-host Jess Eva and mounting pressure due to low ratings.
I think just about everyone here has been very critical of networks hiring 'celebrities' to host radio programs. Surely this should be the final death knell of stations hiring 'celebrities' for radio? Can't the CD/NCD's of the world see that while the experiment may have worked for a while, the reality is that listeners want radio professionals that know how to work with an audience and not just try & tell jokes? Sure there have been a couple of exemptions ot the rule, but they are few & far between.
Look at the longetivity of Jonesy & Amanda, and as much I hate to admit it, Kyle & Jackie, plus others of their ilk. You don't go for that length of time hosting breakfast without being able to relate to the audience and most importantly - keep them entertained. Time for SCA to rethink & replan their strategy.
