Wilbur Wilde axed from Gold 104.3 Melbourne

Wilbur Wilde’s Classic Cafe has been axed from ARN’s Gold 104.3 Melbourne and will not be heard on the network next year.

In the past 5 years Wilde increased ratings in the timeslot from 6% to 14% with his personality based ‘from the archive vaults’ style of program.

Wilde, a well known musician himself, gave an insiders view on many of the bands and the music he played in the show.

The program “served up great songs from the 60s, 70s and 80s including his daily ‘One Hit Wonder’.”

Wilde was often joined “by some of Australia’s favourite performers including Jimmy Barnes, John Farnham, Russell Morris and Daryl Braithwaite who quite often performed live in the café atrium.”

In other ARN moves going into the new year (as reported earlier on radioinfo), former Perth 92.9 breakfast co-host Jane Marwick, will join MIX 101.1 to host breakfast over the summer with a variety of co-hosts.

And as all stations move closer to finalising their key on air teams for next year, speculation is rife about who will join which station, who will defect and who will be renewed. The Herald Sun has also reported that former MIX and Triple M breakfast host Richard Stubbs has been recently seen dining with Graham Mott, igniting speculation that Stubbs might be heard on 3AW or Magic next year.

In Sydney Mix presenters Sammy and Jason are now believed to have re-signed for next year, and rumours persist that there is an additional role for Sammy Power in Melbourne as well as her regular Sydney breakfast shift, despite denials from the network.
