I think National Radio News might have to update their website.

The following stations...

2TVR Tumt (Sounds of the Mountains)
3MCR Mansfield (Radio Mansfield)
4BSR Beaudesert (Beau FM)
4BAY Brisbane (Bay FM)
7BOD St Helens (Star FM)

... if I am correct, have all jumped ship to another news service.

In fact, I believe 2TVR has been with AIR News for a number of years now!

Full steam ahead at National Radio News

This station is getting worse and worse.

Bryan Adam's "heaven" and starship's "we built this city" have now been added to the playlist.

Neither classic rock nor classic songs

Classic Rock (songs) is going to get worse from hereon in as they become nothing mroe than a WS clone.

The one differentiation they had (true classic rock (and too much Billy Idol)is being replaced by Phil Collins, A-Ha and crappy jingles

DMG, youve stuffed it again

Oh My this has become a bit of a mess for DMG.

It's safe to say many in the industry (or at least watching on), felt that the whole "Classic Rock" brand and launch was rushed.

After all, the clear give away was... there wasn't even a logo and website ready on launch day!

Now the theory of "Classic Rock" was possibly a good idea, but where they let themselves down (according to another media forum) was the tight playlist.

Many at that forum asked why they had not looked at Rebel FM Queensland for inspiration, who seem to be the best Classic Rock genre station in the country.

The obvious problem of course was always going to be slicing up the listenership pie.

There are X amount of people who enjoy rock. Currently they are being serviced by Triple M and Gold/WS FM.

A third station was ALWAYS going to just pick up the crumbs when it came to ratings, especially if they didn't have a wide playlist on offer.

I wonder why over the last year the big wigs at DMG have not looked to the format that could nail them a nice 5 or 6 point share... Easy Listening.

Look at the Melbourne market... Magic has been scoring around 7 - getting at least a 2 point bump thanks to the death of 3MP on 1377 AM.

Strangely, DMG have the answer currently in their lap and they are not using it.

I speak of digital station, KOFFEE.

With just a little more tweaking, a few young, but relaxed announcers, and maybe a 30 second news update on the hour, this station could surprise a few people.

If the correct marketing was put in place, you would expect KOFFEE to pick up maybe 2 to 3 points from Magic (with the added bonus of FM over AM), 1 point from Mix and maybe 1 point from Triple J.

A good 5 ratings points on a low cost station, with no genre competition on the FM band.

It does make you wonder... why get into a 3 way fight with a rock format, when you can rule the niche market in a new music easy listening style?

I will give DMG one tick though... they have brought back the station jingle :)

Classic Rock or Classic Songs?

There are pictures of the transmitters under water on 2EC's Facebook page. Thoughts to everyone in the Bega Valley... that's quite a lot of water you have there! 2EC's AM Tx off air due to floods
