Graham Clarke

Radio Adelaide

Graham Clarke. Announcer; Community Station Radio 101.5 F.M. My interest in radio started when I was about four or five, when I discovered this large wooden box thing in the corner of the lounge room from which voices and music emanated. I even, gingerly, had a look around the back to see where these sounds were coming from, only to be confronted by some dim lights but alas no tiny people. During The Seventies while working as a Disco D.J “ The Silver Fox”, at The Arkaba Hotel in Adelaide, I was involved in recording Radio commercials to promote coming bands and this renewed my interest in radio so I enrolled at The 5KA Broadcast School, conducted by the legendary Vaughan Harvey My radio career started at 2BH Broken Hill on the 22nd of November 1976 , doing the six to midnight shift. In my six months tenure with the station I moved to the morning shift, followed by breakfast... My next station was 5AU in Whyalla, part of the 5KA network. I started in the Drive shift, then moved to mornings for the next three years. In November 1981 I moved to 5KA Adelaide spending 18 months in the news room and six months as a casual announcer, leaving radio in February 1983 and getting a “real job”. I joined Easy Listening 5AD as a casual announcer in January 1988 ,and worked a variety of shifts until July 1995. I had always had an interest in popular music of the 30’s 40’s & 50’s and in July 1998 approached Community Station Radio Adelaide 101.5 FM about becoming a presenter on the “Saturday Afternoon Nostalgia Show” and subsequently did my first program in November that year. radio.adelaide.edu.au Graham Clarke.
