Only a year after becoming available in Australia, TikTok has announced that their subscription streaming music platform TikTok Music will close down permanently on November 28, 2024.
The platform, thought to be an attempt to compete with Spotify, was Beta tested in Brazil and Indonesia before arriving in Mexico, Singapore and Australia. Universal Music Group opted out of having their catalogue included.
Now, instead of competing with Spotify and the like, TikTok is working with them by focusing on their Add To Music App, where a song discovered via a TikTok video can be saved to that person’s preferred music streaming platform.
Spotify’s stocks, after TikTok’s announcement, closed at a record high.
For Australians who have subscribed to TikTok music, account information and personal data will be automatically deleted on November 28. You have until October 28 to transfer your playlists.
