Dot Radio discount: Special offer for radioinfo readers

Since October last year, Dot Radio domain names have been available to radio stations and networks.

As a radioinfo reader, if you secure a dot radio domain through the EBU registry, you will pay only €150 per year instead of €220 a year (corporate rate) or €20 for individuals.

Just go here and then put in this promo code when completing the registration process.

A dot radio domain name lets you own your name plus the suffix .radio on the internet.

Pirate.radio, deep.radio and next.radio have already bought their domain name.

German stations WDR.radio and Antenne.radio have also activated a dot radio top level domain, plus dance stations deep.radio and gone.radio,

French station woot.radio, Michigan country music station WWBR.radio, US Christian stations WCIC.radio and Victory.radio. There’s also radar.radio, Irish station sunshine.radio, UK Community station Winchester.radio, and many others.

When the Dot Radio domain name was first released, the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) won the right to vet applicants in the first year to make sure that real broadcast radio stations got first choice of names related to their companies and to prevent cyber-squatters hoarding names then selling them later at inflated prices. Now that a year has passed, Dot Radio domain name purchasing is on the open market, but the EBU is still encouraging radio stations to get domains to prevent non radio companies taking advantage of strategic names such as ContemporaryHit.radio, or Country.radio or other as-yet-unused names.

Dot Radio domain names also help maximise your results in search engines. In a comment on an earlier radioinfo article, domain registry expert Hans-Peter Oswald commented:

Here are some additional arguments for .radio:

The relationship between better ranking and the new top-level domains was proved by a study of Searchmetrics for Berlin-domains. Websites with Berlin-Domains frequently place better than websites with .de domains and .com domains in regional searches with Google. 42% of searches show that .berlin domains rank better locally…

It was proved that Google uses the domain endings of the New Top Level Domains as a key element for the assessment of domains. Total sites draws as a conclusion: “It is clear that the new top-level domains improve the ranking in search engines.”

To allow the expansion of .radio registrations, the EBU has put in place a program allowing us to offer you a discount for .radio domain names.
