With the demise of Nova's little brother/sister Vega in Sydney & Melbourne, sounds like even 2 ads in a row on a regular basis was a stretch for the doomed format.

In regards to the Melbourne Talk Radio print ad…
Good to see that Ash Long doesn't mind using other news outlets’ copyrighted images,
the mic in the newspaper article has been lifted from King 5 news in Seattle, and the art scrubbed out...cheap

It reminds me of the famour Ford EDSEL that was designed by consumers but didn't sell. Answer is simple: Don't rely totally on research - getting out on-on-one and listening to people is much better, resulting in gut feel being a better gauge.
What about Classic Rock music along with a intelligent talk based format? I live in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia these days and was shocked to discover BFM which is essentially Classic Rock music with Business Talk. It has interviews with company CEO's, stock market updates, etc. Business radio and Classic Rock Music. Now you dont hear that type of format in Sydney or Melbourne!
I agree with Ian Nicholls.....one on one and gut feel is the go. I've never believed in research......it's done by calling people randomly usually when they are having dinner or watching TV. Most people are annoyed by these calls and liken it to a telemarketer, whilst others who do participate give answers without alot of thought or preparation for such a call. You get better research talking to people down the pub, at a nightclub, in an office or at a barbeque.
