4MMM sounds f***en AWESOME on the stream. Well done Rex and the team.
I agree with Brians comments about the Triple M Brisbane. I think its pretty good but still not in the same league as the old FM104 or River 949 for that matter. However, think they have made a concious effort to keep their loyal listeners happy.
My guess is that this will be a fairly solid and successful format and the new Nova 106.9 will have the most impact on B105.
Whilst the industry may not always agree, from a listeners perspective, I have to say that increased competition has its advantages when you look at the recent positive changes made to the existing stations in Brisbane (and Ipswich).
While we're on the positives....I'll give thanks to not a PD, but a Creative Director - Jason Myatt.
(Who will be missed by many when he leaves the DDRC at the end of the week.)
He was willing to give me and others the opportunity at a start, where others would'nt, and a chance to be who we can be through a positive and fun learning environment.
Thanks ;-)
Great minds thinks alike - I agree with Brian Chew Triple M Brisbane is playing some better variety, but and it's a big one they still have boring stuff from out of town, which sounds like a totally different radio station! I did send this feedback to them, but as I am only a listener got a short, smart reply! If they had a local format all day they would have more chance of decent ratings, and would have much happier listeners. Again you are right Brian why has it taken someone so long to wake up, seems strange that it is a No2 rating station that has changed, rather than one lower down the ladder? Somewhat risky I would think!
Great to see the comments about offshore radio, which in the UK produced none other than Kenny Everett! Even the BBC did a tribute this year to 40years since Radio Caroline started it all. Great site to check out is www.radiolondon.co.uk , many Aussies were pioneers of UK commercial radio, and are still fondly remembered.
Good to see Triple M trying to provide an adult alternative in Brisbane, but they have a long way to go to get it right. Maybe Nova will be absolutely different when it starts here!!!
what ever happened to the idea of 2ue moving out of st leonards .did they move or are they moving or staying where they are .at one stage it was to be housed with 2gb/2ch that fell through as we know.
Another graduate of Lee's Radio School here, back in '91.
I was there when he moved from the edge of Fortitude Valley into the new building at Spring Hill. Gotta love that upright panel and having to cue those records back a 1/4 turn!
My thanks though goes to Gomez for his encourgaing emails after an unsuccesful aplication for a production gig, and so started my gypsy life as a radio Dee Jay.
if rg capital did get dmg regional . one way around the problem in the 7 markets were they would own too many stations .for these stations to have a back room merger only
have noticed triple m brisbane local breaky show only goes to 8.30 am could the cage be put in the 8.30 time when we get that old day light saving hits again
Michael Ross you are no doubt right!! Shame as the local, (as opposed to the southern) MMM programming is sounding real good - Rex Morris must be remembering his days at Stereo 10, as it sounds almost as good!!!
Nova tests sound good, even more variety for Brisbane and on the net http://www.nova1069.com.au/. First full set of ratings after Nova launches should be interesting, my guess might be 97.3 -12% B105 - 11% Nova 10% MMM 10%. Depends a great deal on what MMM ends up doing, and how much they all spend on TV ads!! Interesting that 97.3 and MMM have discovered adults do exist, and don't all listen to 4BH!
John Preston, I actually like what 4KQ is doing on air 9am-6pm, all Australian gold. Hopefully their ratings will reflect that next survey and have a good rise. Sounds great in stereo on 4kq.com.au.
if dmg owns nova106.9 and hot91 . it could still keep under 15% of 97.3fm as well couldn't it
Brian - Nothing happens anywhere else in Australia!!!!!!!
The tests by Nova are a clever move, it does what you say, and should make their first set of figures a lot better than they would be, with a 'normal' test transmission. B105 must be worried as they are now saying what 97.3 are saying ie 'Feels Good' - no doubt this will muddy the waters further, as Nova and MMM are both 'different'. It's fantastic at long last to have such variety in Brisbane, I need more buttons on my car radio!!!
Sorry more news about Brissy!
First casualty or maybe promotion? 97.3 breakfast this morning is no longer Campo, Marnie T and Terry!! This morning it's Marnie, Terry and Hinksy!! No mention of holidays for Campo!! Sounds like a rush job judging by the number of gaps and errs!!!!
Brisbane is hot!!! (27 degrees today!!)
Another Brisbane Radio Listener comment!: I agree that 97.3 has probably benefited from getting listeners by default after Brisbane having sufferred for years with an Austereo duopoly. Looking at their latest rating figures, it would appear that about 50% of their audience up to 25 yrs. So, I think that taking into account Nova's young target audience, they are going to take a chunk of this away from 97.3(as this age group is not 97.3 target audience). Whilst I like the "less talk" aspect of 97.3 format, it definately needs a freshen up as it is extremely repetitious.
Think that MMM has made
a fairly clever move in its repositioning. As for B105 - reckon they might be in for a bit of strife. Might need to revise their marketing strategy if the best they can do is copy 97.3, Nova and River 949 slogans.
i have been in radio since 1964, the majority of the people i worked with were team players and easy to get along with, imagine my surprise arriving at 2ue years later to find a whole new way of dealing with fellow workers. verbal abuse , ray hadley wasnt the only one, it was seemingly acceptable behavior that has continued unabated and judging from john brennans feeble comments unpunished at 2gb.there is no excuse for bullying in the workplace, how can you possibly work in that atmosphere. brenno you are wrong!! his workmates do take offence. ask for some honest comment, particularly from those who have left the employ. ray may take the gold but you do have a silver medallist there. a few egos need to be checked. grant goldman at friendly ego free 2sm, home of the good guys

Based on radio's past performance with people, and from reading these posts, it still goes on! My simple statements of what I heard on 97.3 this morning are just that. I listened whilst in the shower, shaving, and in the car, and no mention was made of why Campo wasn't on air. A fair call to say that it sounded like he had left, for what ever reason, and this was the conclusion I came to. Nothing personal just based on radio's performance in the past, and the change in position of the names on air!
As you say "I'm hearing a lot of loosers on air these days that aren't funny" Your opinion, and great that you can express it, but not correct, and according to you, I was also wrong!
Maybe radio needs some more passion in it, but are people able to express that passion? At least with another station in Brisbane on FM we will have a choose - at least lets hope so, if they all chase the same market it will not be good for listeners.
Maybe the way demographics are used is one reason why stations are the way they are? We have grown up on 'rock/pop'(or whatever label you wish to use) now since the 60's and don't have the same music tastes at the same age people did 40 years ago! We have also grown up with FM and older people now listen to FM for music, rather than AM, and many AM stations have changed to FM!
If what you say is true, then I wish Paul Campions mother all the best. I do have a great life thanks Camel, and a great name, which is my real name!!
Keep putting passion in to your posts!! Who knows you might get a job in radio!!!
John
This whole bullying issue is just the tip of the iceberg. I've only been in the commercial radio industry for a year and a half (as a journalist), but so far I have seen and heard about a lot of radio workers who are manipulated, lied to, harassed and bullied about. The people that do it aren't called to account, and that's why they keep doing it.
But I honestly don't see why they should be allowed to get away with it. Radio is considered a business, not a public service, right? So it should be conducted like one. That means if you bully and harass, or sexually discriminate, you're accountable, like any other industry is. And if you look at it from a purely commercial point of view, good HR is good business anyway. I don't think it's pure coincidence that companies which treat their staff well and reward talent get the ratings. Look at DMG.
Austereo speeds up songs... I'm surprised this practice has only been "exposed" recently. I started work at 2DAY in 1990 and it was common back then. Pity the poor punters who dash out and buy the CD only to be left wondering why their fave tune sounds so sluggish!
i reckon the heritage stations such as 2ay 4ca 4to 4mk etc will be sold and i think it will be rural press. as for macbank i reckon there next shopping spree will be across the tasman namily canwest mediaworks
Like some others have already mentioned here in earlier posts, I'm a little confused as to what the sudden fuss is all about RE, songs being sped up. This has been happening on and off on various stations in this country ever since the pitch control was invented.
It's been a common practice in American radio since the 50's-60's. Australian radio didn't embrace this practice as much over the past 40 odd years however, but it's certainly not a recent occurance, and definitely not an exclusive practice to Austereo.
Has anyone noticed some songs on some ARN stations over the past few years? Same deal, although that I believe was due to the fact that these songs in particular that were being played originated from Clear Channels US archieves.
If Austereo simply wanted to cramb in more ads, they'd surely apply other measures. The real reason, as Austereo have claimed, is purely cosmetic in the audio sense.
Does it give any benefit for the listener? They obviously believe so. Does 'Joe Average' listener notice? I seriously doubt it.
Do they really care? No where near as much as the media seems to.
Do record companies and artists care? From a personal, creative "I put my heart and soul into this" perspective, perhaps, but if it's being flogged on air, which equals sales and exposure, I don't think they'll worry too much.
This is nothing new or worth getting in a tiz about folks. I'd perhaps wait until stations start again applying loads of reverb to overall station output, a common practice on some Top 40 radio in the 70's. Why?? The Americans did it of course.
Greets,
A thought came to mind today while I was in le shower..whatever happened to the old 2GB building in the city and more importantly, what about all the old gear/tapes etc?
Just a thought about the upcoming federal election. I wonder if either party plan to do something about commercial radio. By that I mean are they going to keep the current market-based system of self-regulation in its entirety, or do something about the amount of networked programming (which has meant the regional training bases have all but disappeared, and everything sounds the same - even the news).
Just saw the name Garry Suprain on the front of this site. Wasn't he part of 3XY a while ago? Could've sworn I heard that name associated with 3XY somewhere.
That's the one! He was PD there in the early '80s - ed.
he also [gary surpain ] worked with jim pike at 4ip & 2nx . his other on air partner was graham smith at funtastic 4bc
the speeding up of songs goes further back than the 90s, we were doing it at 4ip in 1970. i think you will find 2sm 3xy and 6pr were doing it as well . it does help to add another song per hour, but the added advantage was it made the opposition radio stations turntables seem faulty. grant goldman . ps re community radio surveys, tell them they are dreaming.
Good on the community radio sector. I also like the fact Grant is questioning the community radio survey, just as his owner calls into question the AC Neilsen Commercial Radio surveys. Love your work Grant, shame I can't hear you more often, Im only down that way occasionally now. SM breakfast was quite entertaining last I listened. Also amusing is the fact 2GB pulled the football of all regional Caralis stations over an alleged non-payment contractual issue. Thank goodness for the ABC and the live broadcasts on Nine. I'm surprised Radioinfo hasn't led with that story today over the alleged contractual breach.
Thanks to those who gave me an idea on regional contracts. there were no dubious reasons for it just that one of my students was offered a contract with absolutely no benefit, finiancly or personally to them. There must be managers out there training for cap city gigs.
Who would I vote for based purely on their radio policy? That's the question I've been asking myself for weeks now.
I want to say Labor, because their rhetoric sounds nice, but I can't. That's because many of the problems in radio now (too much networked programming, not enough diversity and independence in news, a lack of training and massive job losses in news and announcing) are a direct result - in my humble opinion - of their policies (Exhibit A: 1992 Broadcasting Services Act) - and managers forgetting that localism will always be the strength of radio. I am convinced that all the digital technology in the world isn't going to paper over the fact that the deregulation/self-regulation of radio has a total disaster.
BUT then again, the Coalition haven't done anything about the problems either since they came to power. In fact, it's getting worse and worse. The government wants to use the media to spread its happy message, but it doesn't want too many irritating questions, now does it?
That's the long answer. The short one is: neither.
On the CBAA survey, which is largely consistent with trends shown in SA over a 10 year stretch, the CRA takes a predictable stand. There are two answers. First, conduct a collaborative total radio listening survey using the best methodology available (either people meters or prompts for all call signs in the local area) and Second, perhaps the community and commercial sectors of radio should be collaborating to celebrate the rise and rise of radio listening against that of TV viewing.
Note the word collaborative pops up?
And another thing....for some of us in the industry, community radio is the destination not the journey, and I guess there are listeners happy with that destination too. Nothing for CRA to be too concerned about I wouldn't have thought, but television......
I hope the extra funding to the ABC will also be partly used in maintaining its archives. The wiping of Countdown episodes for example was something that shouldn't be repeated ever again. Granted some episodes were on 2-inch that had to be reused due to the cost of videotape at the time but...
Apropos of nothing to do with what the Forum is about, has anybody out there got an up-to-date photo of Leon Byner for my website picture archive? There appears to be only two - the one used for the David Marr savaging and the rather grainy one used in the Radioinfo story. Is this bloke a little camera shy or what? If you do have one, please email to [email protected]
I have a few comments to make about NOVA's latest findings into ad clutter, and in particular, Austereo's predictable reaction.
Firstly, the research findings were OFFICIALLY released only last night at a special function. Even the clients and agencies invited weren't aware that new research was going to be unveiled in the course of the evening. So you would assume that the first opportunity anyone at Austereo would have to even hear about the findings would've been - at best - late last night.
And yet we have the research being discussed in yesterday's Financial Review, including a response from Austereo's Michael Anderson.
I assume the Financial Review was provided with the research findings ahead of time as a professional courtesy, but took it upon themselves to "scoop" their competitors in the time honoured journalistic tradition.
I also assume that Anderson was provided with a copy of the findings in order to solicit the predictably negative reaction and spice up the article...
What irks me is that Anderson dismisses the findings as "embarrassingly simplistic" when he had no opportunity to analyse the findings in any depth. One can only draw the conclusion that it is his reaction rather than the research that is embarrassingly simplistic.
John W Blackman. Been loads of photos on Leon in Adelaide Advertiser durring inquest on him and 5AA. Tiser may be able to send you some..David Day
Anybody invited Nova Guru Paul Thompson to 4IP/ River weekend. He was an original 4IP Good Guy. He hates me saying it but I have an aircheck of him from late 60's.

Considering that radio is on the razor's edge of some of its biggest technological and listenership challenges in its entire history...eg: digital radio, internet radio, downloading, satellite radio etc. etc...what the hell was the relevance of speakers such as Clive James and Bruce Beresford to the industry in 2004 at the CRA National Conference?
Ian MacRae esq.
Totally agree with Cammell's last comment. Radio is powerful but too often writers are churning out sausages because reps have promised clients they'll be on air the next day, never mind their ad will sound like every other ad and acheive absolutely nothing for their buisness ! Give the creatives time to do what they do best and better radio will result.
Funny, but it's exacly the same in regional TV also.

GIVE REGIONAL AUSTRALIA ADEQUATE RADIO SERVICES
Clement Blake, Ouyen Victoria 3490
I would like to express my disgust in relation to the inadequate coverage of MIXX FM Swan Hill, I live in the North West Victorian town of Ouyen which is in the Swan Hill Radio licence area plan (Perform a post code search on the ABA’s website & you will locate a coverage map of the swan hill radio licence area) we are unable to receive any signal because we are located 137km from Swan Hill & the station’s transmitter power is not strong enough to reach Ouyen. My house is on a hill & I can manage to pick up the station at night but even then there is static & the signal drops in & out. I have lived in several regional areas of Australia but I have never lived in a town which is so underserved by radio services we can get the ABC & nothing against our national broadcaster I think they do a fantastic job considering that they are working on a tight budget & I have been listening to ABC Local radio it is the only station that dose not drop out.
I have spoken to many people around my new home town & all they want is to have choice when it comes to what they can listen to including a commercial FM radio service, But It should be noted that many other small regional towns across Australia have the same problem as Ouyen they are in a radio licence area plan but they can’t get the services that they are entitled to, While other small towns such as Omeo(Vic), Warburton(Western Australia) & Wilccannia(NSW) can get either 1 or 2 commercial radio services. Ouyen is a one of the bigger Mallee towns with a population of 1300 people & radio is the only media that people can turn to if there is a natural disaster, Everyone has a right to receive adequate radio services no matter where they live.
Re the "back to 4IP weekend", I thought it was not only a great idea and also very entertaining. Unfortunately I was only able to listen on Sunday afternoon but I heard Pete Rudder and Paul J Turner (Good on 4BH for letting them do the gig - I believe some other stations were not so obliging) They were both great, and might I add, did play a few songs etc from the 4IP era. Whilst I am a regular Brisbane listener of River 949 (and there are plenty of us given the inferior Brisbane FM products being offered), I think River was doing the right thing by focusing on its actual licence area as the Good Guys promotion was in line with the 100 year celebrations in Ipswich.
Good onya River. Innovative ideas like this together with the vast and unpredictable playlist they provides gives us a great alternative to the Brisbane FM commercial stations - especially the station just a little further up the dial that sounds like a CD player in shuffle mode (with a very limited "same old - same old" play list).
I agree with Warren 97.3FM is starting to sound boring, and in need of a change of the CD shuffle mode! I also agree with Brian, Triple M when playing local programs sounds great, but you are right the talk/network targets a totally different audience, and must loose them listeners?
Heard a great 'oldies' format in the US on hols recently and they played some great stuff you never hear on radio here.
Too right if Nova have local content then they will win a big audience share - kids are already listening. Their 'test' broadcasts are a great way to get the brand into the market - notice the other FM's are all changing to a 'more music' format eg 105 minute music marathons on B105!!
The River/4IP weekend was good fun!! A similar 'pirate' format on a local BBC station was also a great success. The BBC have introduced a 'pirate' format at nights on one of their stations, as a result of it's success. The great thing about the 'pirates' was the 'atmosphere' created, something that is missing in today's sterile radio world!
Good to see the conspiracy theorists are alive and well!
The reason WILDFM's test transmissions ceased when they did is because the time had come for an ACTUAL licence to be issued. WILDFM and a number of other groups applied for this community licence which was eventually allocated to FBI. Nothing to do with NOVA or any other commercial operator I'm afraid.
There appears to be a belief in some quarters that there is something almost sinister in running a radio station for profit. What IS sinister is when community operators like WILDFM use their supposed non profit charter as a front for peddling CD titles - or worse - as a means of generating revenue to line the pockets of their operators.
And on the subject of NOVA's ad policy - if they've ever played more than two in a row it would be due to human error. NOVA has simply made too big a song and dance about this policy to play silly buggers with it.
G'day folks. Would anyone be interested in a bunch of Audiopak AA3 carts? (blue type). Free to good home, varying lengths of tape in each. Smallest runs 2'20" while the longest one clocks in at 9'10". I also have empty shells (carts with no tape in them but can be respooled with newer tape if required). Drop us a line at [email protected] if interested.
In regards to Brian Chew talking about people listening to 4MMM turning off when Mick Molloy comes on. He either ignores or doesn't know the fact Molloy actually went up another 0.5 points to retain #1 in the market and clearly move ahead of B105 and NEW973 even moreso.
Apart from weekends, it is the only 4MMM timeslot to rise. So I don't think 4MMM management are really worried what people think, the proof (or as best we can get of proof) is in the ratings. Let's see next year when NOVA become a real player.
Has anyone else noticed that when Austereo has a good survey result it's because their "long term strategy is reaping results" (or similar) and when they perform poorly it's because "the market is volatile"?
Thanks for your comments on Mick Molloy Brian; he is actually the main reason I log on at midday each day from the Hunter Valley. I normally listen to WS online til midday, then 4MMM. I agree that he doesn't fit the 4MMM format, but so far, he is justifying his role :)
Just a message for Glenn Wheeler - thanks for the fun 'n' entertainment on your overnight shows Glenn. Let's hope the powers that be don't decide to can your saturday and sunday afternoon shows as well.
Clement Blake, Ouyen Vic
I would just like to thank those people who responded to my article in relation to the poor coverage of MIXX FM Swan Hill in Ouyen. I am in the early stages of trying to establish a community radio station to serve the local area.
David,
Tell us what you REALLY think :-) You were young once as well by the way, and we all had to start out somewhere. So before you decide to get on here and personally attack people, have a look at yourself - with that kind of attitude I think you're almost due for a few changes yourself. If 95% of presenters on air today shouldn't be there, then post some audio of yourself and let us be the judge of YOUR persona. At least we can then follow your lead and see just what the hell you're on about.
It's really starting to grate on my nerves the number of people on these forums who can dish it out but can't seem to take it, much less taking a swipe at 95% of presenters then failing to show us how it's done through the eyes of David.
If you can't blind 'em with brilliance, baffle 'em with BS eh David?
"If 95% of presenters on air today shouldn't be there, then post some audio of yourself and let us be the judge of YOUR persona. At least we can then follow your lead and see just what the hell you're on about."
If this gentleman is the David McKenzie I've heard (2NUR and 2HD Newcastle) then he's a good communicator to an adult audience. I haven't heard him on 2HD for a few years now (not that I listen often to 2HD - great station for whom they cater to, but AM reception here is a tad dodgy). I respect all opinions (well I try to) - that's one reason why I especially love reading Camel's opinions - always well thought out and entertaining!
Mark,
I don't have any issue with David personally. I'm sure he's good at his craft and does it well. What I do take issue with is the fact he started off with a good comment, but then let it fall by the wayside with a personal attack to 95% of presenters, concluding only 5% of presenters do their job properly - and I repeat, these people can dish it out, but when the same is done to them, all hell breaks loose.
David like everyone else on these things certainly has a right to his opinion and I for one have no problem letting him have his say. But when it turns into a personal attack, that's when I get fed up - and that's with everyone, not just David. There ARE better ways...
Just which markets are you famous in jamie ? Or did you mean infamous ?
"95% of presenters on air today shouldn't be there and women are a big portion of that."
Wake up David McKenzie. This is the 21st century.
Clement Blake, Ouyen Victoria
Well Macquarie Regional Radio knows how to make headlines moving its Northern Hub operations from Townsville into the Southern Hub building in Albury. If Macquarie Regional Radio is going to create a single regional FM radio network will this mean that we will never hear names like HOT FM, SEA FM & STAR FM.? I am not attacking this plan, I think it could be a good change which is long overdue, but wouldn’t it be great if stations in major regional centres could have the chance to conduct a competition to find a new name. If Radioinfo conduct another interview with Rhys Holleran I would like them to ask the following questions on my behalf:
1: What is your view when it comes to local content on each station?
2: Exactly how much networking will there be if a single FM network is created?
3: If a single FM network is created what will happen to stations like 3MA FM, 2GZ FM & 3BO FM will there be changes for those stations as well?
I have always been a harsh critic when it comes to networking especially in major regional radio markets I just hope that there will be no job losses & local content will be increased in major regional markets like Mildura.
On the topic of prize pigs...why don't we treasure them!
If they want their lives to be dominated by this industry we love
who are we to stop them ?
I remember at WAVE FM in the 90s they developed what they called a "club 965" that rewarded regular prize winners with special nights and movie premieres and tickets to the hot shows in Sydney.
Make them feel special and the rewards for the radio station in "street talk" will pay for itself.
Why are we in this business ? Of course to make money and entertain but treasure the people that make us part of our lives!
The thing with "Prize Pigs" is that most of them actually end up working in radio! True?!
Clement Blake, Ouyen Victoria
Hi Brian I'm sorry I forgot about cairns & Townsville, I do agree with you with both these cities having a combined population of over 200,000 thery are just as much entitled to have local programs like Mildura.
It certainly is true in your case Cass!
And don't ya just love it ?
could some old fm favourites be returing next year doug mulray wendy harmer richard stubbs tracey bartram .dmg must be looking at these names for the over 40s stations.how about star fm as the name for said stations after all look at gosford.macbanks radioworks is sure to rebrand hotfm star fm under the seafm, cfm brand for a national regional fm network
Clement Blake
Well Michael you never know some of the people you mentioned may be back on the airwaves in 2005 for the new DMG over 40's stations to launch in melbourne & sydney. As for naming the new stations STAR FM why not they thought of the name so they might as well take the name with them it was there's in the first place.
how about dicko for the new fm station as well. dmg does have him on contract
G'day fellow radio people,
Last chance to grab yourself some audiopak carts (AA3, blue type). Varying lengths of tape in them from 2'00" to 9'10". Some with tape, some without. Drop us a line at [email protected] if interested. FREE to good home!
Well it had to happen, Kyle and Jackie move to brekky on 2DAY - would love to hear opinions on whether it will work - is Kyle too brash for brekky?
Taking a look at todays radio ratings (and the previous ratings), it looks like B105 in Brisbane has lost 8.6% of its 7pm to midnight ratings over the last two ratings periods. 97.3FM has lost 4.4%.
In the "other category the figure is now at around 20% for this timeslot.
Before the Nova test transmissions, the figure (SURVEY 4) was around 9%. So Im guessing that a lot of the 10% to 11% increase is for Nova. DMG should be rubbing their hands with glee!.
Think Austereo have done a clever job in Brisbane repositioning MMM but the very tired B105 should be worried. If Nova launches with a fresh lineup (especially at breakfast - B105 breakfast has been pretty much the same since 1989) I think it will clean up.
On a seperate note - dont think Austereo in Adelaide should be jumping for joy. Nova in Perth entered the market at around 10% with Nova Adelaide at 7.9%. Dont think whole Austereo reshuffle for the sake of a few rating points in Adelaide was worth it. This is only my opinion, but I think it gave other stations (namely Mix) the opportunity to forge ahead by taking on some of the previously loyal Austereo listeners and this now seems to be reflecting in the SAFM and MMM Adelaide ratings.
Could Hamish and Andy get their own networked show as they are also on 2day? Don't forget Mix in Melbourne - we still don't know their plans yet.
Howdy folks. Thanks to everyone who replied regarding the carts I wanted to give away - no more calls please, we have a winner!!!! Um...hehe...well they're all gone anyway. Thanks! :-)
In regards to the 2HD/NEW-FM building comments, I remember being in the HD studios during one summer a few years ago and the jocks (Dave Cochrane and Elissa Macneal) were on their guard because a brown snake was spotted in the building earlier that day. Needless to say, I didn't hang around too long, Elissa and Dave were braver than me!
have heard the nite mix has replaced zemanek and kerr on the ex dmg herritage stations in nsw and qld
i read that there will be a new late night on macbanks local works stream can anyone which staions are in this stream
I just wanted to throw in my $0.02 about this whole national anthem biz that's been turned into a dance rhythm. You guys ain't heard nothing yet.
Tom and Subby (I think?) on Triple M last night (december 16th) played a rap version which went "australians all let us f*****' rejoice for we ******' are young and ******' free" etc etc..every second word was a ******'. (no need for me to repeat it). All in a rap style, and "gonna shoot you ******' australians" was also part of the lyric.
Tom and Subby you are hereby classified as something I can't print. There's travel warnings in place for Indonesia re terrorism and you dills are just fuelling the fire.
has anyone in this country, not just this forum (!) who is complaining about the national anthem cared to find out what EXACTLY is taking place NYE? Or do you take your instructions exclusively from The Daily Telegraph, which has a well-known agenda against Lord Mayor Clover Moore? There is also going to be a full classical version of the anthem, but do we hear complaints about that? No, because its easier to bash Clover and blame Clover for just breathing. Why don't we all sit back and wait til we see/hear it on NYE and then pass informed comment?
Completely disagree Mark, sorry. Unless 2UE, 2GB, Channel 9 and a couple of others also have a well-known agenda against Clover Moore, then I'm afraid I'm gonna have to disagree.
Channel 9's ACA ran a poll on that dance version of the anthem and 65% of the people who rang in found it abhorrent. So did almost all of 2GB's holiday on-air presenters (Jason Morrison's program an example - he got absolutely swamped with emails and phone calls about the dance mix, 99% of it negative), and a few 2UE'ers.
Since when was something complained about so much giving news airtime? (apart from Channel 9 taking off Douggy Mulray's naughtiest home videos in 1992 but that's beside the point). Sure, play the full classical version of the anthem no worries, but my argument was the f*****' version played by Tom and Subby at the house of M's - there's no need for that, and surprise surprise, what did we hear in the background before the mikes were switched off? A girl sounding like she was in her early 20's giggling away. Sounds like a ploy to impress the girl in the studio, same way as these damn DJ booths on wheels and two to four blokes trying to break the sound barrier would do in a super high performance WRX. The only reason why I was on Tom and Subby's show in the first place was the fact 2GB took an ad break and I went flipping stations in those 3 or 4 minutes and found it. I thought I was on Triple J for a second there!
There's a time and a place for everything on the wireless - but screwing around with the national anthem is just wrong. I don't care if someone is clever enough to lay it down on cardboard sprinkled with magnetic material (like someone pouring salt over hot chips), you just don't play around with it and call it a musical work.
Frank, We ALL know that Nine and the talk radio stations would have nothing to discuss if it wasn't for the local Murdoch rag. I guarantee you that a lot of the time, the top radio news and television news of that day is the same thing on the front of the Murdoch paper that day.
All I am saying is wait until you see ALL of the presentation before passing comment. It's like listening to 12 seconds of a new song and saying "Geez that's crap" - we've all done it. Maybe its just me, but I'm tiring of all the whingeing Australians seem to be doing these days. (not that I'm helping here)
Put it into context, its about 15 seconds, of a 15-20 minute presentation, its a party, 90% of the public will be pissed and won't remember any of it, and come January 2nd, we're all going to be talking about the Sydney cricket test match, and not some stupid sample of the national anthem (and by the way, I don't like the version either)
Lets just chill and get drunk, and just celebrate 2005 :)
No worries Mark, I'll buy the drinks! :-) heheh
See Jamie, you and others on these forums have to understand that that's what gets people riled up. "Durrr" indeed. Instead of bagging us because we have a different opinion to yours, how about you stop being yet another keyboard hero and offer something other than "Durrr"? You know, I'm getting a bit sick and tired of people like you with holier-than-thou attitudes on these things. This thing says "It's your forum. Respond to others.". It DOESN'T say "bag someone for having an opinion different to yours".
Oh and another thing Jamie. I'm 31 and yes I do listen to 2GB et al. That doesn't make me an old conservative. What's wrong with wearing a tie? It shows you mean business, television industry or not. Let's just take your comment for a moment. I guarantee if you were to front up at a job interview in trakky daks, sneakers with holes in them and a 29 day growth, you wouldn't be considered as much as the person who takes the time to dress appropriately. Point 2 - the word is RESPONSE. With an S, for a start. I guess you'll just have to call the J's and find out, won't you?
Of course it's not gonna change the course of the nation, I agree with that. What I don't agree with is putting everyone who listens to 2GB in the "old conservatives" basket. Does that mean your operation only caters to people under 25? Tell me what's wrong with listening to talkback generally Jamie. No, actually, tell me what's wrong with having an opinion on these things. Who the bloody hell is asking you to agree? If you don't agree, then be civil about it and state your case WITHOUT berating the people concerned. Don't sit there behind your screen and type "Durrr" as if to say "well whoopdie-doo tell me something I don't know".
I swear I'm gonna get ulcers with a couple of you people. Honestly. Maybe I've become a little sensitive to matters like that since I lost someone in the world trade center attack, I don't know. Take a leaf out of Mark Sales's book Jamie. Instead of sitting there slagging off everyone.
Take a leaf out of my book? Goodness, the country is in enough trouble now :)
I just think it's a smart move by the Daily Terror to get people involved more in the NYE celebrations by creating a controversy over nothing - aren't they a major sponsor? :)
No matter what happens, Robbie Williams Live and Knebworth is on Nine before the midnight fireworks, so I'll definitely be watching both (the concert for the millionth or so time)
I haven't heard the new version of the anthem, but I can't imagine it would be any worse than the original!
Why a decent tune like Waltzing Matilda wasn't picked in the first place I'll never know - at least people know the words!
It's embarrassing when sports people, and the crowd don't know the words to their own national anthem.
A shame no politicians have the guts to say we made the wrong decision, and change to a song and words every knows, and can relate to.
i agree about river949 having to look form a new format sen could do well with it but what about 4bh sth cross does have stake in pacific star who in turn have the opition to get control of sen later as for sydney how about 2sm and perth 6ix.
You could be right there, Warren! Along with a trusty drum machine and a decent bass line generator, you've express booked a place in the top 50 singles chart ;-) lol...merry chrissy!
Merry Christmas to all. This is the first year in 10 that I will not be working on Christmas Day and Iam certainly looking forward to it. But I must say that being in peoples homes on Christmas morning and taking the calls really is a great feeling of being a part of the community.
To all in this tumultuous idustry have a great and safe Christmas and New Year
Working in Darwin on Christmas Eve and Day is something pretty special when you remember Tracy. I wasnt here but always get calls from people that were here and thank the powers above that I wasnt here. It's 30 years since that horror night and we do remember them.
Cheers

g'day there folks.... a couple of ramblings from a (currently) half pissed radio amateur (spelling?)
With the demise of 5DN - it is a little sad to see it go, but it seemed to be inevitable in a world of the commersial dollar.
Triple M Adelaide - doe s anyone think that the 'new' triple M now sounds like the 'original' MMM in Adelaide (ie majority rock).
Last but never least - I'd liek to wish all and sundry that have used this forum a very merry christmas and wisth you and all your families a happy new year :)
James.
