is it just me or are they too many joung jocks that lack music knowledge
Stations all doing the same..Hot/Top 30s, More Music Less Talk, networked programs dropping in local ids:
See what research has done! Who needs consultants providing a mountain of research when you have a pd & backup team that runs more by instinct that by research alone.
Jocks with real talent don't need to be told what to say & do by consultants and research.
This is what is missing. People with talent enough to stand out above the bland "same shit different station" stuff..where has it gone.
Personality..both from the jock and a station "as a whole".
Katie, if community stations were playing what Joe and Josephine Public want to hear, they would outrate the commercial FMs. Alas, they are not. With new audio and computer technology (CD stackers, CD burners, MP3 player, PC jukeboxes), you can listen to what you want, when you want. Commercial radio (to vary degrees of success) adds value by giving you information of the moment (traffic, news and editorial) and presents it in the most digestible and portable format - so you can listen on the move. Community radio on the other hand destroys value by not giving you info on the move and boring you with a B-grade artist's discography. Furthermore, community stations are driven by what the announcer wants to put to air. Hitz wanted to target kids as they were kids themselves - playing what they wanted to hear. What if a kid wanted to hear big band music? I bet you that Hitz whould not have played it, and insulted the caller to boot! Yes, some kids did turn off the commercials and listen to Hitz, but not the majority. Nothing has changed much since Hitz - the commercials took the few with talent, and are still doing every day what they did before Hitz. The ones left have realised slugging it out for free ain't going to pay the bills, and those that haven't are still at Centrelink. Hitz FM is exactly where it should be - off air.
